325xi Muffled Popping During Acceleration

So, I just purchased my first car a week ago (2002 325xi ~147,000 miles) and I am having a slight issue. When accelerating and turning left I hear a muffled popping until I reach a higher speed (more than 20 MPH). I know I need to replace both front control arms (I am in the process of purchasing them now because the bushings on the rear are almost nonexistent) but I would like to have your input on what is most likely causing this. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks, AndrewReaganM

Sounds like a CV joint failure.

not 100%, but thats my first impression.

I would guess ball joints and/or bushings. Do you get the sound under braking? If the sound is more of a clunk, it's likely a sway bar end link.

Same thing happened to me, you need to replace your "center support mount" or some call it driveshaft center bearing. Severe popping vibration underneath you while accelerating through about 15mph? Yea it was bad Definitely check into it.

Thanks for the replies! I have been very busy lately (School...) and just replaced both front CV axles to find grease everywhere after 5 miles... Anyhow, I have managed to look under there at the Center Support bearing and WOW. It is obliterated so I will be ordering that soon. Again, Thank you for the responses and sorry about the delay!

I can confirm that made a enormous improvement in the way the car drives, and it got rid of the popping. It was a very easy job to do. Just get all four up high on jack stands, take off the exhaust (very easy), remove aluminum covers, and you are in there. Then remove the drive shaft from the guibo, mark everything then pull it apart. Very simple.
Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
