To purchase or not advice appreciated pics inside!

Considering purchasing an 02' (10/31/2001) BMW M3.. The dealer is firm on 17k and althought I don't like the colors/smg I can get used to it. Pics at bottom!

I am about 5 hours away they agreed to have it inspected.. BMW wanted 260$ for a PPi and 190$ to inspect the subframe (including pictures of area)
The SA told me it was inspected at their dealer April 2013 (they lowered/checked but didn't take pictures) @ 61xxx miles and was crack-free....
Was also informed it had the SMG/DME reprogrammed and the rod bearing recall performed in 2003 asked about vanos told me it would be expensive to check it.

Has 62xxx miles and I am not sure if I should have the subframe inspected again. He gave me a discount if I did both for 390$ (60$ off) is this a good price?

THE CONS ::

Colors are ugly to me very generic (Titanium Silver Metallic/Gray)
Aftermarket Radio (single din) with Subwoofers in the back
Aftermarket LEDs on headlights wut the hell??
Exhaust (unknown no-name brand)
Wheels (cheap no-name brand)
Ripped Armrest

THE PROS ::

Only 62xxx
OEM Hardtop
Has stock exhaust/18s
Faster then my e92 328i

Titanium Silver Metallic (354)
Gray (N5TT)

Are those fairy lights? I don't think I've ever seen those on a e46 M3. I read on here that the convertible versions of the E46 M3 didn't have the subframe problems that the coupes did/do.

If you don't like the color and can wait...keep on looking.

I'd wait...those lights are a clear indication of how the car was kept.

It's a good price. The hardtop is a big big plus. No matter who tells you what over there, take the car to BMW for a PPI, especialy to check the SMG so you dont have problems again and take it from there. Because In my opinion if most checks out at PPI the price is very good. The hardtop itself would run you about 2k. Who is telling you the subframe was inspected in april , the seller or BMW ?

$17K is too high unless you love the mods. I wouldn't pay more than $15K with the hardtop.

Thats right, it seems like I am used to the high as hell prices over here.
Cant touch an M3 over here for 15k with under 100k and clean title.

Lets see.. your paying 17k for a car that you dont like the color combo, and you dont like the smg... YOURE UTTERLY INSANE. Be patient and wait for one that you want, unless you enjoy turning your head and walking away from a car that you regret purchasing. I wanted a manual and went and drove an smg and that completely made my decision to never ever buy an smg lol

I can get used to the colors although I do love the Alpine White on my e92 coupe my options are very limited.. (dealer to take my trade/financing)
Unless theirs somewhere else to look ive tried AutoTrader, Craigslist, eGay even tried getting local aution listings but no luck.. (20k out the door)
Was told the subframe checked out by a local BMW dealer (just so happened to be the one I called for a PPi that did it back in April)

ActiveAuto quoted around 3500$ to do the 6MT swap so SMG isn't really an issue but what I do not want is to get screwed over again..
How should I proceed? I am in no rush but thought the car might have potential. My zip code is 33190 maybe I am not searching in the right places..
I rather not drive/fly 500+ miles away to be disappointed and not buy the car.

If you're willing to pay $3500 to swap SMG-6MT then spend $3500 to fly and drive home a 6MT, you'll have $$$ left over.

The car wouldn't be a daily driver if the SMG took a dump on me in X amount of time I wouldn't replace the pump but would do the swap..
Main reason I cannot buy a car out of state is because I have a car financed that would need to be traded in (and that ties me down to semi-close cars)
I don't have much cash to play with so I cant even think of buying from a private seller either =(

don't do it

wait for one that's just right for you

i rushed into buying a lexus IS300 but it was green and I hated green....whenever i was driving it i always second guess myself for it. i eventually sold it and got a black one but wasted time and money doing so.

get one that feels right and checks all the boxes

trust me you'll find the perfect one eventually

I did

will the m4 coming out next year affect the depreciation of the e46 body style or will they pretty much stay the same?

So the verdict on this one is a solid NO from the community confirms my search will continue oh lord where is my beloved M3!!

nothing could depreciate the e46 ;-)

spring time usually has more cars to pick from.

and don't limit yourself to a dealer, private is the way to go in my book.

and check the forums here for members selling their cars.

i drove 3 hrs to get my 330i off CL but it has been one of the best decisions of my life

+1 Wait until you find the car you want! I checked my local CL (ATL) regularly but found my car posted on a neighboring area (NW GA) way up near TN border first... So, apps like Craigslist Pro are a great way to do regional/radius searches w parameters if you know what you are looking for! Good luck man

its super clean but has 124x miles and is in NY although he says it can be financed its over my budget (20k out the door including tax, dealer fee, etc)
Need to stay somewhat local to trade in vehicle cant be appraised out of state and if the numbers don't work im waisting $ flying and wont be able to purchase..
