I was pre-wired for CD changer, so I just bought an adapter that changes the CD changer wires to a single aux cable. Then extended the aux cable to my euro tray. Cost me less than $30 bucks and sounds perfect! You can find the adapters cheap on ebay. I had to do this because my headunit is not compatible with the BMW Aux cable.

Didn't really follow a DIY, but its very simple. You just plug the adapter into the CD changer cables, then extend your audio cables to wherever you want it. Sorry I don't remember then name of the adapter, but here is a picture off my build thread of everything I used. Cost me less than $35.

What year is your car? Did you get a new headunit? Is your plug fully seated in the black clip?

I'll tell you what I did. I bought a head unit which supports AUX IN and MP3. It was about $140 (included amp and 4 midrange speakers in good condition). I then had to buy the antenna adapter because my car is a 1999 with the old antenna connections. I bought genuine BMW adapter (PN 61126913955) which set me back about $30. I then made my own AUX adapter using very nice metal film capacitors on a custom circuit board. The circuit board probably cost me more than if I have bought the genuine BMW kit, but, I did get many boards, not just the one.

Ooh not to derail OP's thread but is there any chance you have a link or part number to that adaptor?

Relevant to the OPs question I did the exact same thing, grab a headunit out of one that's aux capable. I was patient and got mine off eBay for $75 buy it now . Mine does mp3 cd support too I did my aux adaptor but soldered my caps inline. Pain in the rear and its a miracle its still working. If I ever have to redo it I'm getting a PCB printed (I'm in EE and have access to these resources/machines at my college)

Here's a great thread that lists out all the radios you can get, their part numbers, and what they support. You want one that supports Aux. Note: contrary to popular belief the mode button does not necessarily mean it automatically supports aux!

That connects 2 aux posted in the picture must have been used because I know their product and there is no way that that was $30. Dealer cost is more than that.

This is what you need. I have install videos posted for it also. Please leave us some feedback in the thread and ratings on the product since we are new to the BMW scene. Thanks guys!!!

It actually was $30. Here is one for $45 on ebay. There are great deals out there if you just look around.

Ebay does provide some killer deals through liquidation companies sometimes.

After you pay for shipping from the UK that about $60. Our aux is $75 shipped through a US company that provides technical support.
