M3 SMG to Manual Coding

I am looking for someone in Brisbane - Gold Coast area that will be able to recode my car from SMG to Manual.

The problem I have got is that the cruise control will not set, and have been informed by the mechanic that did the conversion it is because the computer is still coded as an SMG. Everything else in the car appears to work and there doesn't appear to be any warning lights on the dash...

So far I have spoken to James at BPS, Lachlan at Chip torque to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I probably have the equipment to do it but have no fkn idea how to actually do it. If you can research what needs to be done and are confident to give it a go yourself then you're welcome to borrow my stuff..

I have the cord as well as INPA, NCS Expert etc.

If this wasn't installed then that's your problem. You shouldn't need to code anything iirc.

partly true, but more to it.

completely wrong.

1. the manual and smg dme software and versions / tunes are different
2. the smg has a gear recognition sensor at the back of the robotic arm
3. the manual has a gear recognition sensory which needs to be driled into the side of the gearbox case itself, completely different sensor and wiring.
4. without the clutch switch it wont work.
5. without the gear recon sensor it wont work ether.

Manual RPM shift lights wont work either.

In order to get the crusie working.

MANDATORY:
1. the ecu needs to be flashed to a manual versions.
2. you need to wire in the clutch switch. Very simple and only a few wires.

Once thats done, when you push the cruise button on the wheel, it will turn on at the cluster but wont actually work.

At this point u have 2 options,

1. Pull the box back out, drill the casing and install the manual gear recon sensor and run wires for it, not so easy.

or

2 (what i do) modify the binary in the ecu to disable the gear recon sensor. once thats done, cruise will work happy days. Manual rpm shift lights will also work once activated. Under this method the only non oem feature is that when the clutch is pressed, it wont disengage cruise, but who cares, you have a button and brake to do that.

If you want help pm me, i can help. have done quiet a few.

your reverse lights wont be working now, but thats another story.

The car had previously been coded to Manual so that is no longer the problem.

So I finally got a chance to do a bit more checking today.

The car has been fitted with a clutch switch that only has 3 wires coming off it: 12 volt in, earth in and a earth switch coming out. It appears as though the wire (earth switch) from the clutch switch goes to DME pin 20 at connector x60002 (24 pin black connector). From my research the car should be fitted with a clutch switch that has 4 wires coming off it.

By the looks Pin 8 in EWS has been wired straight to 12 volt. This

Is there any way I can check whether the wire coming from the clutch switch is going through the gear recognition sensor (that is if the gearbox has been fitted with the right sensor) with out getting under the car?

I am getting a little frustrated at the whole no cruise, and most of the auto electricians and BMW specialists I have spoken to have advised that it is pot luck to get the cruise control to work after this conversion.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The EWS to clutch switch wiring is only a USA and Japan only "feature". We don't have it on Aussie cars.

So I decided to jack the car up and check to see if I could find a Gear Recognition Sensor. Surprise Surprise no sensor fitted to this gearbox. If only the mechanic was upfront with me in the first place.

Now I just need to check that by sending an earth signal to DME pin 20 at connector x60002 (24 pin black connector), all I need to do is "modify the binary in the ecu to disable the gear recon sensor" as suggested above? Will a continual earth signal to the DME suffice, or does it need to be signal coming from the clutch switch?

Finally does anyone know of a mechanic / auto electrician... in the Brisbane - Gold Coast region that would be capable on modifying the binary in the ecu?

I think I might be able to finally see the light at the end of this tunnel, just need someone to do the ecu reprogramming... for me, otherwise I will have to remove the gearbox and get the Gear Recognition Sensor fitted.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
