It does ring from car speakers as well as your cell(maybe I'm using android phone?? non-sense). It rings with default tone from old android era(maybe out-of-the-box gingerbread default ringtone if I remember correctly), I just couldn't find option to change the ringtone.
Wish I could take a video of this too with my cell but my nexus 4 video recording app automatically shuts down when I'm getting a call

Opening the box, there was no external mic included but there IS a input for external mic from the unit.

Does the Avin
1. have the same glare on the screen during daylight
2. Screams loud (vol) when unit is switched from any source to radio mode
3. have better audio/video quality compared to Dynavin
4. Internal fan works overtime to cool down a 'hot' unit

ps: Are tommy and jeff business partners
Well....it's not independent but I tried to make it honest and comprehensive....
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=1015704

1.Glare is not too bad, frankly the dynavins are not bad any more either. You can't change physics though, the screen directly reflects the back window, BUT by running a high contrast color scheme, predominantly white on black, visibility is improved a lot compared to the low contrast orange on black you have been using.

2. No.

3. Similar.

4. No fans.

No, not business partners, we are just working together to bring you guys the best we can! Dynavin has been moving away from the android stuff to pursue more conventional "car audio" features and vehicle integration (idrive, PDC, etc...), this is a good thing BUT.....that left a hole in my offerings for the techie crowd. The Avin came along at just the right time to fill that hole.

Hello Jeff/Tommy,

I don't read anything about PDC in this thread, does the Avin support the PDC image as the Dynavin, or will it work with a rear view camera only?

In fact if you could let us know what features work without the internet connection that would be great.
Radio works without internet? GPS?

Figured it was going to be allot more then anything out there...Ill wait for lower price or when another company does the same for half the price.

??? There have been cheap units like this out for a couple years....and they are junk. Go beat the dead horse on the enco thread, The whole point here is to do a product like this the right way.....and that costs money.

You do realize I was not talking about the Avin units right?

Go read the threads for the cheap knock off units, it goes back years, most recently lots of guys got paperweights and half functioning units, and had to do disputes with their credit cards to simply get an email response from the seller. How is that for business etiquette? Ive been working nonstop here for 4 years now to be as helpful as possible to as many people as I can and I dont like seeing people get ripped off. If you think im being a jerk about it go read my posts, and then go read theirs.

I was a member and an early adopter of these types of products long before I was a sponsoring vendor here, I worked through all the good and bad that they had to offer, fixed a lot of problems, and rescued a lot of people who got ripped off, thats what ultimately led to me being a trusted seller here. So was Tommy/Avin/M3evoluton, thats why we are on the same page about this and are working together. Trying to do things the right way, yes it costs money, but wouldn't you rather have a moderately priced product that works, than a cheap product that doesnt?

The point is that "Custom3" is waiting for a unit half the price......well, no need to wait, they are all over these forums, there is a reason they are cheap and the threads speak for themselves (if you read the whole thing which unfortunately few do).

I tried to do voice command thing without external mic but it didn't work for that.
Maybe some sort of setup is required?

Normal Bluetooth calling feature works good with internal mic tho.

Can ask what you mean by external/internal mic? I'm guessing one is the one inbuilt near the center light. Is there another in the unit or something?

Tommy,

Is this unit compatible with the Harmon Kardon upgraded cars? Other units I've looked at (Dynavin etc etc) are technically compatible (in that they fit), but lose the AMP and over half of the speakers.

If its affirmative I'll be ordering one immediately.

Cheers,
Matt

Not true.....HK is a non issue in the E46, for the dynavin, the avin, or whatever head unit you want to install. Tons of misinformation out there about this.....HK or not, the oem amp has 4 channel input, regardless of how many output channels it has.

Yeah, he is confusing it with the dsp system in the 5/7/x5 series.

I've just had the AVIN unit installed in my 2003 330ci with factory navigation and Harmon Kardon sound.

Overall the system is awesome, very very happy with it.

The only issue is with the Harmon Kardon amp - when there is no sound coming through the system (radio off etc) there is a small amount of hiss and static present, even when the system is muted. If you turn the sound up it becomes quite audible.

The guy at the pro audio installation said this is because of the HK sound, the new AVIN unit doesn't have the hardware to suppress the noise when there is no active audio, where as the factory one did.

When driving, you don't notice it at all. That's the only issue I have with it.

However, when music is playing it's a non issue, it sounds awesome.

Cheers,

G

What's the best offline navigation application for this unit? That is my only hesitation about purchasing this unit.

Thanks,
