Making progress. Setting up room for a party tonight. Cleaned the floors and pushed some sh1t to the back. There's so much space. Training 6 people will be no problem with this space. Click image for larger version

What do you guys think of this combo. Paint the grey blocks this grey color to clean them up then the top part will be orange. I like the bottom one. I want bright but not obnoxious.

I'm thinking top. It's the same colors as my gym, basically. They do gray with an orange logo. Look in the blog and you'll see some examples.

If you put a big whiteboard on there, it'd look better. I can't remember what color ours is.

Maybe you could do the brick and other walls gray, then that top half of the wall orange, and put the dry erase board there?

Edit: here's a picture of our wall with the dry erase board.

There will be a white board or black piece of glass to write on. I think the very back wall will have my Spun Performance banner with the timer right above. Brick will be repainted a gray color to clean it up, and top will be orange. I'll have some other postings on the walls. Maybe info, pics of form etc.

That's my boy. I may be in Chi-town sooner than you think. A Capoeira affiliate is having an event there.

basically this is where I stand.

-I'm now a CF level 1 trainer
-I have all the equipment, aside from making a few med balls and boxes, to handle 6 people per class.
-I applied for affiliation 3 weeks ago today, typically it takes 4 weeks. With holidays I'm anticipating a little longer. Just anxious/nervous that I wont be approved for some odd reason. In that case I become a regular strength and cond gym and do my best with word of mouth. It's doing ok for me so far.
-garage is cleared and probably will be painted this week, gym set up to follow. This shouldn't take too long. Putting together a few squat stands, laying mats etc.
-I need to apply for insurance, get logo designed, order tshirts, and set up website and FB page, instagram, etc. Also start the LLC which my boss (president of company) is going to help me with.
-Open up.

As it stands these are my members that I'll have on day 1
4 guys
2 girls

guys are close friends so I'll give them the 3times per week price for unlimited access. Their rate will be 60 and unlimited will be 85.

The two girls are basically begging to pay me now and are willing to pay 85 per month. I could get something out of them but told them to hold off until I'm opened.

So to start I'll have 6 members and $410 in revenue right off the bat. possibly 5 since 1 is a probable but not definite. My plan is to pay my bills, pay off equipment, and pump money back into the business. Ultimate goal is to grow large enough to warrant a larger better facility, hire a few trainers, and make a living off of this. Baby steps right now. I need to do my best to build my name and be patient. One of my best friends who isn't even a crossfitter said he loves my passion and wants to invest. I told him I dont need anything at the moment, of course capital would be great, but it's not worth giving up some percentages for say, 3 new rowers.

Hope that helps. Any questions let me know.

ok guys I need some serious business advice right now. Some of you are very smart about this stuff and I could really use some help so I don't make a mistake. Greg (glight) earlier in this thread suggested rates...

"Free Saturday class is good and maybe do something at the park once a month. Monthly fee is best. $75 for twice a week, $95 for 3 times a week and $110 for unlimited. Or you can sell 10 visit punchcards for $125"

As you guys know I have limited space (enough for 6 people at a time) and 2 classes per night, with a few on saturday and sunday if people want them. So, I'm not sure how many total members I can have since most people will not be there all at the same times.

I have 5 members ready to go right now. 3 of my original guys I'm hooking up. $60 a month. These guys have helped me a lot so I want to help them out. They all come 3-4x a week. 2 girls I know will be paying $85 and they will come 3-4x a week.

My question is, now that some people are catching wind of what I'm doing, asking a million questions, and really taking me serious, which is odd around here because very little people with business ideas ever do anything about it. It's giving me a lot more confidence that I can make this happen with the passion I have.

So with how the training "practice" is going now, with all the above said, I think I am worth more than $85 per person like Greg said, I don't want to sell myself short. If I fill up with $85 members I don't want to regret it when I know I could have gotten more. So...should I do a limited "founders" price of $85 for maybe the first 5-10 people then do $99 or so which would be grandfathered in? The local CF around here are all $150 but they have larger facilities, more equipment, and class times. So I can't charge that but I do think I can get more than $85. I can always try the limited price of 85 and regular price of $99 and lower it if I'm stagnant for a few months.

I know maybe I'm thinking ahead too much but I don't want to overwhelm myself because people can get $85 CF instead of $150. I don't want to undercut locals that helped me out and I think. Im not looking to blow up over night so slower growth is kind of what I want right now.

Any advice is appreciated. Ask any questions you may have.

Re: Seriously thinking of starting a CrossFit affiliate

I would say the pricing you are thinking is good. $85 for founders club. $99 grandfathered in for anyone joins when you're still in your garage and $125 when you are at a dedicated facility

Honestly, you need to write up a simple business plan and as part of this map out what the competition is and what they charge. You're kind of writing this stuff here, but you should have it down more formally for yourself. Having an introductory or founder's price is a great idea and good way to leave things flexible in setting your pricing.

Mapping out your pricing and potential clients will also help you see cash flow projections. This will be useful to see when you might be able to make the jump to a dedicated location.

How are you as far as officially registering and insuring your business? You also want to check to make sure it's even legal in your city to have a home business like this.
