Trade glock 17 for 34?

I have the opportunity to trade my gen4 glock 17 for a gen3 34. I only use my 17 as a range gun so I figure going to a 34 would be an even better range gun.

The only issue I have is that its a gen 3. I really like the features added to the gen4 glocks.

Anyone have a gen3 and gen 4 and can tell me if the differences are that great?

The guy is wanting $50+my gun. I told him $25 is the max I would go since its gen 3 vs my gen 4.

I have a Gen3 G34. To be honest, it's not some massive improvement for range shooting. Slight advantages, but nothing earth shattering.
Get some time behind a G34 before you make your decision. Find out if it's worth it.

What are the features that you really like on the Gen 4 vs the Gen 3?

I like being able to use the backstraps to fit my hand, the texture on the handle of the frame, and the extended mag release.

You can add texture and an extended mag release to a gen 3. Have you shot a gen 3 against a gen 4 to see if the backstraps are necessary?

That could be a option but I think my next gun purchase will be something a little easier to conceal

Glock has a single stack micro compact coming out at SHOT Show. Unknown if it's a 9mm or .380, but if it's a 9mm it should be a big contender.

For now keep your Gen4

Yeah, I've heard it's going to be a .380ACP. Kind of bummed, but I'm hoping that they bring a 9mm at some point.

9mm would be awesome. I don't care for the 380 cartridge.

Saw something tonight that confirmed its a .380. Useless IMO, considering the other options.

I guess it doesn't confirm it, but it does look like a picture of an upcoming magazine issue

It's all-but-confirmed. The writing is on the wall that it will be a .380. This pissed me off when I first heard about the new single-stack. From the start it was leaked that it was designed to be a .380. They want to compete with the LCP and P3AT. They should be trying to compete with the M&P Shield, LC9 and PM9/CM9. 9mm is far superior.
BUT, it's a step in the right direction at least.
