Oh, that's what those tabs are for? Mine was such a tight fit that it just sits in there. I didn't screw anything in lol

There are some tabs that from the rear I can see have the screwholes I need to affix it but I can't figure out how to get the tabs off! I don't want to break them.

See the picture for the location of the tabs I'm talking about. I don't think the E46 version has them.
Take the unit out and turn it around, take a small screwdriver or something that can get into the small holes on the back and push them out

I guess your supposed to drag them straight out but i couldn't get a grip on them to drag them out.

Probably but in the E39 you don't have to cut or modify to install it, just mount the 2 brackets that comes with the unit, take out the 2 tabs that Ironman273 mentioned earlier and screw the 2 small screws into the brackets through the holes on each corner at the top of the player.

Btw in my case i had to get some longer ones as the one's comming with the unit was a bit short.

Thanks Haug523! One question: did you have any trouble lining up the bracket to the screwholes? When I tightened the bracket it seemed to bend a little and I thought it might mess up the alignment.

Yes, i needed longer screws to be able to get it in, don't think it's 100% lined up but it's good enough for me

Yeah if you don't mind please post for me. I am not a member at bimmerforums. I agree 100% with you. I also have posted this on xoutpost.com, a forum exclusively to all the SAVs. A bunch people on there are interested as well.

Got one on order! Really hated the Dynavin unit and not being able to use navigation and bluetooth. Hope this unit lives up to the hype!

its fine, the unit fits pretty snug in the dash as is, the brackets just lock it in so it cant go anywhere.

If you're thinking about buying this unit, just do it. It looks OEM but is sooooo much better. The thing that I'm really impressed by is the aftersales service. Tommy has immediately come back with solutions to issues I have had. And truth be known most were software related. Given he only sold the hardware giving advice on the software is above and beyond.

I was doing an install this weekend and noticed something nice about the new capacitive screen when installed in an E46 where visibility has always been problematic.....although it has a smooth reflective glass finish and the rear window is reflected, you can still see the screen behind it, through the reflection, much in the way you can still see your cell phone screen outside (if you have a decent phone). Most stereos use a matte finish screen that tends to wash out in this type of lighting.
