Ken

I was reorganizing my closet and found an extra 500 round box of 223 hiding behind some jeans...

What should we do with it?

Lol

Best feeling evar. I found two unopened boxes of .22lr in my closet at my parents, so another 1100 rounds!

Time to start planning a trip, I guess, Jon!

It's so funny - I pinned up my target sheet at the office, and every 3rd person has a comment and an invitation to shoot with them.

Tried to go again today. Wait time for a port was well over an hour, and I had too short a window given the 45 minute ride home, so we bailed. Friend had a nice little collection with him, too. Need to make an evening trip next time.

Picked up some basic eyes/ears. I also have a pair of high-end custom molded ear plugs I use for drumming to go under those ear muffs. The safety glasses fit over my prescription glasses. If I'm not gonna own a weapon anytime soon, might as well have what I need to go to the range and rent...

This thread is now about my progress and/or collapse into total obsession...

Went out today - solo... None of my buddies could get out, so I figured this was a good opportunity to shake off any nerves about handling things on my own.

Today's stats:

S&W M&P 9mm (rental, obviously)
100 total rounds (5 rounds per load)
Targets below (in order):

7 yards
7 yards
10 yards
7 yards

Notes:
Got pretty comfortable very fast with the gun. Loading without a speed loader is pretty fatiguing, it helped that I was only doing 5 per load. Also good to let me take my time.

The 10 yard target was a bit easier than I expected, but it made the 4th target at 7 yards noticeably easier to site.

Overall, I think I'm trying too varied a combination of input changes at once to know what's working or not. I'm still what I'd consider relatively consistent for a total noob, though.

Here are the targets (in case they don't post in order, they are marked with the distances).

Not sure if you're getting feedback Ken

But that's REALLY good shooting for a beginner

This is my feedback, at least for today's outing.

My real goal today was purely to further my comfort with the equipment. I'd like to take my wife without dragging a buddy along to make sure we don't blow anything up.

As for the accuracy, I'm pretty happy with that result. Certainly fun...

Thanks, Jon, by the way! Coming from you, I'm pretty sure it's not just an empty compliment. Good to hear for sure.

Where in PA are you guys. I go to sunset hill fairly often. Love shooting but living in NY sucks.

Extremely impressive for a beginner. Keep it up and get a glock! I suggest a 27 for concealed later down the road. Its a .40 but you can swap the barrel/mags with 9 or 357.

Thanks! I may try to get out this weekend.

I'll be renting for a while. I think the next rental will be a Glock or Sig.

Got out today. Another lucky shot with muzzle flash.

Random targets below - the awesome 5 shot group at center is me - the random shots at perimeter were from my buddy - his first time. He was shooting at the same sheet, on target over.Click image for larger version

Start the process now...depending on where you are in NJ, you're looking at a minimum of 6 months before you can even smell a pistol

I will probably get a card, even if it's just for ammo purchase.
