For the cost Mark, i would replace, be careful though, BMW sell one which they class as water valve which sits behind the engine at the top, the other sits right hand side front "near engine" ill try get a pic today with location. I had a similar issue and replaced that and now all good. Ill come back with pic today some time mate.

My Ride: 2000 318 Ci
Hi all, tom here got a 318 ci v reg/2000 shes got problems but shes fairly tidy, but she only cost me 150 ! it's my first bmw, i live in somerset england, and am keen to try to get her running right, been told she failed mot on emissions
I have jumped the gun slightly , I bought a Peake research diagnostic tool.read codes and seems the knock sensor 1 and 2 and the lamda sensor before the cat are the problem, I cant find the knock sensors at the mo , mainly because i haven't got a manual or the time to llook properly, can anybody suggest the best manual to get?

Many thanks, i shall be back !
Tom.

Hi Tom, realoem is a good place to find things. I believe this is the location and actually called a ping sensor - http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...15&hg=11&fg=10. Haynes Manuals are normally good to have.

Same as unmarried life... just with added ball and chain lol.. still have my bmw, havent got the heart to get rid of it. I started her up the other day and took her for a quick spin. Checked my new expasion tank later to see if it still had water after running the car..... feckin oil in the water! Looked at the oil cap.. I could have buttered my bread it.... so now in two minds again on what to do.. head gasket fix or scrap her and save for another 318.

The sensible thing to do would be to scrap it. But ive put so much into it.

I might try and find someone who could use a donor car maybe. Its got lots of new parts, including front wishbones with balljoints attached that I never got around to putting on.

Hard choice mate, but if your doing it yourself it's a cheaper fix, and a fix that could resolve all your issues like it did mine! Two years of changing things to find head gasket gone!

I added the auto fade feature to my angels now and looks good ha ha.

Your having too much fun with those lights. Lol.. they look great!

I was thinking about doing the head myself but if it needs to be skimmed then im in trouble lol. I had a good look over other things yesterday and I found water in the drivers footwell. It had been raining here non stop up until 2 days ago so not sure if its a just a leak somewhere on the body or the back radiator leaking. .. if its the back radiator, that could be the missing link and explain most of the issues ive been having with the cooling system. Particularly how air keeps finding it's way into the system.

It had to be done

Ah, skimming here is 200, not sure how much there! That back rad could well be the issue too mate, worth trying and if it works its a cheaper fix than head gasket!

Normal price to get a head gasket done is anywhere from about 400 to 600.

That's normal price here without the skimming and head check!
