Is the only downside to a pinned/welded muzzle device because of or lack of suppressor usage?

I wasn't even thinking of suppressor usage. If you wanted to swap to a different device to try it, or you move to another state that doesn't allow what you chose, or you want to change the gas block, or you want to change the rail. All of that requires finding a smith that can remove it without destroying the barrel. I just don't think it's worth the hassle.

If i had money burning a hole in my pocket I would probably get one of the following:

http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin...n&key=HSP-JACK
or a replica build with non perm attached muzzle...grant might even be able to build you one.

http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin...on&key=750-780

or

http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin...D16LW-BFH-MK4S

or

http://www.knightarmco.com/portfolio...-carbine-mod1/
or with new urx4...i really want a rifle with the urx 3 though...just wish the barrel nut/install wasn't such a bitch

http://www.riflegear.com/p-1883-nove...en2-lower.aspx

However my top choice for a rifle(that doesn't fir your criteria is right now would be:
11.5" BCM ELW Upper with 10" KMR Rail

Last word that I got from KAC via official channels was that for the SR15, they're only commerically selling the E3 Carbine Mod2. They're discontinuing everything else because of the massive backlog of rifles. Less variants means faster production. The SR25 is now limited to the E2 APC.

That is, unless they changed it again. I've been trading emails back and forth with their LE sales group and that's what I got out of it. Kind of disappointing, but it is what it is.
KAC/KMC is still one of only a few companies that I would fork over the money for an entire rifle instead of building. You know, if I had the money...

I asked them when that stuff would be available for purchase, and their response was "whenever Trey tells us we can".

Did they mention when the E3 Mod2s would be shipping, or readily available?

The official answer was "whenever Trey [C. Reed Knight, III; aka Trey Knight]" tells them they can start selling it. The people running the divisions at KAC and KMC honestly did not know and they stated so.
My understanding is that KAC/KMC is still filling backlog orders from post-Sandy Hook. When they complete those orders, they will start building the new rifles and distributing them. June/July was thrown around, but it was by no means an official date. It was more of a best guess. I would recommend calling them and talking to them about it.

I know that LaRue is varying between 13-16 months for the P'tOBR and OBR right now, so I can't imagine that a KAC is going to be much easier.

I hope they reverse their decision to only sell one model of each, but thus far I haven't heard anything to the contrary.

Finally made a decision. Found one for a "deal".... if that term is applicable to KAC rifle. He had listed it on GB 4 times. Upon re-listing it for the 4th time, I emailed him an offer. Deal.

SR-15 E3 Mod2

The guy i'm buying it from has a last name of Stoner..... I doubt it, nor am I sure that i'll get the truth, but i'm going to ask if there is any relation to Eugene. His company name is Stoner Tactical Ordinance.

Edit, after some internet searching, looks like he's Eugene's grandson.

I just read through some of the comments about the sr-15 on M4carbine. I'm pretty excited to get my hands on it! If Stoner ships it tomorrow, it should be here Friday. But i'm not holding my breath...

The SR-25 is like a damn unicorn, so you should be pretty happy and impressed with the SR-15. It's on my list of rifles I'd love to own.

So i've heard. I also heard it's the second version of the Sr-25 that people are in love with, as the first versions wasn't well liked. Something like it needed copious amounts of a specific lube to almost function properly. I've heard that due to the longer gas system, the SR-15 may have issues with weak loads, but out side of that i've heard / read nothing but praise.

KAC rifles are built like BCM rifles in that they're made specifically for 5.56 NATO pressure loads, and not .223Rem. Moderate and lower power .223 loads can cause cycling issues on both setup.
