I shot my Glock 36 pretty well. I just wanted more rounds.

Similar to this...

I'm not sure how that would be advantageous vs having both thumbs on the frame though. If you're used to it, sure keep doing it. However if he's new to shooting he may as well try to have both thumbs on the frame.

Granted; I could BARELY achieve this with my PF-9. It's a smaller gun than the shield so with practice it should be possible.

Remember though; on a carry gun you're going to want that grip to be automatic and second nature.

So i should be getting my shield in the next few weeks, and now i'm shopping for an IWB holster. Any recommendations? This will be the first gun I've carried. I'm 6'3, slim

I've got a holster made by JBP, just a basic leather IWB. It works nicely. It has a basic belt clip on the other side.

It's for my Nano, but I'm sure it would work for your shield. It fits my SR-22 and G21A as well.

Check out the Crossbreed MiniTuck if you want IWB. If you want to do AIWB, take a look at the Raven Concealment Vanguard-II.

I have never seen anything like that Vanguard....very intriguing. Do you use it?

EDIT: doesn't look like they have one that fits the shield

I haven't used the VG2. I am considering getting it when I go back to a smaller pistol. I have appendix carried before, but for me it only works with certain guns.

What's the downside to having an external safety? Don't like to use it? Fine...don't flip it to safe. Seems simple to me...

some have argued that it gets flipped on in pockets, fanny packs, etc.

of course, one should just train to flip down when drawing regardless.

Yeah, it's new. It was supposed to come out last year, but S&W has been backed up to holy hell.

God that's really good...I have no need for the thing and might go down and buy it at that price.

If the Shield is anything like the M&P 9mm or the M&P 22, that external safety gets in the way of your thumb impeding a good high grip. When I bought the M&P 9, I made sure to get one without the external safety. I removed it from my M&P 22.

Until you carry one for a few days in a nice IWB holster. It's barely there compared to most other compact pistols. I compare it with compacts because that's how it shoots. Doesn't feel like a subcompact.

It's not. It looks identical to the slide release, except it's only about third of the size. As flush against the frame as the slide release as well. I'm like you with regards to the M&P 22 safety, not a fan.

From OP.

M&P 22 The safety lever is even larger than it looks in this pic.

As a person with larger hands, I'd rather they'd gone with the M&P 22 route on the Shield. I personally wish I could mod mine to look like ^^ that...

Just goes to show how hard it is to design a weapon for the masses I guess
