You know you're going to buy a gun. Don't fight it. You're hooked.

Definitely hooked on shooting, and I'll definitely continue renting/sharing guns with friends. Luckily, most of the guys I'll go with own a gun or 3. This will keep me going for a while.

Once I get my wife shooting, I think ownership would be closer at hand...

Buying ammo at the range is definitely expensive, though.

Current pistol permit time around the state is close to 3 months, and don't forget the OGAM law....apply for 3 pistol permits at the same time. $2 a piece, and it's worth having the clock start now, even if you are not interested in buying anything.

Current expected time spent sleeping in my car after coming home with a pistol is 18 months.

She had fun. Started with a .22, then moved to the 9mm. After 5 shots with the 9, she turned around and said "now that's a gun."

She said she wouldn't have wanted to go back for the 22.

Got back to the range after some business travel craziness. Targets below are 7 and 10 yards with the rental M&P 9mm. I'm pretty comfortable with that gun, I'm ready to try something new next time.

Is that a .50? The dude in the port next to me was shooting a .50 the other day. My hair was blowing from the shock wave.

First time posting in this thread in a while.

I spent some time at a large outdoor range with a friend this afternoon and got to shoot a range of weapons.

2 Glocks 19s, 9mm and .40. Shooting at steel disc targets at ~18 yards (it wasn't marked). On my best continuous run, I hit 7 out of 10 rounds once I had it dialed in.

Next, moved onto trap shooting. This was my first experience with any kind of long gun. It was a 20 gauge. I shot 2 groups of 10 shots each. My first run I missed the first 2 clays, then hit 7 in a row, missed the last. Second group I hit 6 out of 10. I LOVED that exercise - definitely something I want to do more of.

Finally, we went to the rifle range. 1 steel target and 1 paper target at 100yds.

First rifle - I unfortunately do not recall what it was. It was a smaller caliber - I'll ask my friend what it was when I see him next week. It did not have a scope, just the sights. I did terribly with this gun - 2 out of 10 shots hit the disc, and I really couldn't get dialed in.

Second was a .270 with a scope shooting at a paper target. I landed a few on the 8.5x11 paper, but wasn't comfortable with the weapon or the scope.

Final weapon was a 30-06 (sorry - don't know the make of any of the rifles). This one I liked, even though I was most intimidated by it. It felt very stable and the scope was much easier for me to use. The target attached shows my first 3 shots in the orange target. The shots below the orange were a combination of mine and my friend's shots with this one.

(edit - that photo is rotated - right side is BOTTOM of the sheet)

After 3 hours of shooting, I'm SORE, but very happy with the first experiences I had tonight.
