Went to this horrible sushi place last night in Newport, would avoid Kitayama like the plague. It was overpriced with horrible service despite the gorgeous locale. The highlight of the evening was being able to try a blended Hibiki 12 year that was quite sweet and easy going. They were sold out of Yamazaki but definitely would recommend the hibiki if anyone is curious about it.

Had a dram of this last night- and it was worth every penny. I will be picking up a bottle for sure.

Been getting in to Japanese whiskey recently. For those of you that like the Yamakazi, give this a try. I like it better. Its a bit lighter, but still full of flavor. If you're looking for some more body, there's an 18yr as well.

How much is the yamizaki? My lagavullin is getting low and it will be time to try something new.

I started with Oban 14, moved to the Lagavullin 16, maybe I should do an 18 next? Recommendations, nothing ridiculous over the top but a scotch I could drink and not think twice about spending the money for.

Yamakazi is about 50-60 for the 12yr. So is the Hakushu.

I love the scotch's, but its always nice to mix it up.

There are plenty of 18's out there that aren't nearly as good as some younger scotches, so don't pay to much attention to the year, just do some research for scotches in your pricepoint and take it from there

Based off of your last two, you are comfortable spending $65ish on a bottle. For that price point you can get some pretty good scotches. I mentioned above my next bottle will be the Balvenie. The 14 year Carribbean Cask and the 15 are both incredible scotches... have at it

Links to a deal?

Agreed on age note always equaling quality. I saw that Balvenie on a scotch list at a bar this past weekend. Almost ordered it but I was done for the night and had to drive. How does it compare to the lagavullin?

Balvenie isn't nearly as smoky as the Lagavullin. It is a great scotch, but if you are into more peaty scotches, the Balvenie may not be for you entirely.

Bought this at Trader Joe's for $18.99. Reviews say it's like a 6 yr old laphroaig. It kinda does. Taste better neat than with ice.
