Engine backfire?

Has anybody here experienced a backfire at high rpm when shifting from 1st to 2nd? It happens right after you let go of the pedal and shifting to 2nd?

Talking about a pop from the exhaust when you shift? It's normal when near redline. DSC can cause it too.

The backfire sound is when the excess fuel is not ignited in the cylinder and falls into the exhaust and ignites in the exhaust. The less restrictive your exhaust is the more noticeable and louder it can become.

A backfire is the explosion made in the compression stroke coming out of a leaking intake valve(s) or a stuck open intake valve(s). Are you sure this is a backfire, it doesn't sound like one. Maybe a misfire?

Why would dsc have any effect on a backfire

It gives the effect of a backfire, dsc cuts power if you're wide open right when you drop the clutch after a high rpm shift to prevent wheel chirp/back end breaking loose. Then it instantly starts dumping fuel after that small pause, it's give a very loud pop out of the back end of the car which most will think was a backfire.

That would be a backfire. Just out the exhaust. Not the intake. And my dsc has never done this.

I get it once in a blue moon( my tune is on the rich side) when i shift at a near the redline under load, but it's not all the time. It does makes my 1-2 or 3rd to 4th feel like the most perfect direct shift with a slight ting-y sound.. I do not get a loud bang or a shotgun sound, but a slight metallic pop from the rear.

I wouldnt expect this from a stock e46 m3 with stock cats but anything is possible with so many variables.

edit: the only time I had lots of backfiring was due to a ban bremi coil. But it sounded like a diesel, and it would throw codes

I wish my car would throw flames at redline. That would be sweet

Found the problem with my engine backfire at high rpm. Air filter was clogged... Found out when I replaced it with AFE stage 1. No more back fire at high RPM..
