Aging driver seat

I'm looking for advise on what to do with my functional but awful looking black leather non-sport driver seat on my '02 330 vert with 180k miles. The seat has lower leather panel separation and side bolster wear/tearing. Previous owner was an Aussie, and I fully blame the seats condition on his rough and tumble nature
I've done a fair amount of preventive maintenance on this car and would like to keep if for a few more years.

I talked to a local upholstery place here in San Diego and he thought it would be ~$400 to redo the leather, but stated the leather would look different than the rest of the interior, and would thus recommend also getting the passenger seat done. He said he wouldn't be able to get the same type of leather grade here in the states, thus would look significantly different than rest of car's interior leather. btw passenger seat is cosmetically fairing much better. The upholstery guy actually recommended I try to get a used seat in better condition, but I haven't had luck yet with local junkyards or ebay yet.

would love some feedback on what you guys have done and/or recommendations

Not sure, but check out the classifieds here for Interior or Parting Out, you should be able to find something.

Would a sport seat be plug-and-play compatible for my stock non-sport car? I know the sport seats have different motorized adjustments

I would start with some dye and see if that makes you more content with what you have.

I have a leatherette drivers seat that need to be repaired or replaced. A top upholstery shop quoted me $300 to redo it and it looks like my best option. I'd love to find a used M3 or leather seat but there are not many out there. I would continue to look at the parting out section and visit a local upholsterer for a better rate without sacrificing quality.
