So here's an update, my electric use was half or slightly better than half compared to the previous year month after month while using the window a/c's. All I'll say is this experiment was really a success, my home stayed cool enough that everyone was happy. One runs 24/7, the other runs as needed, or about half the time.

I would recommend this to anyone that wants to save big on your electric bill, the fam thought i was crazy at first untill the bills started to roll in, then they had a change of mind.

The mini split units such as this one seem to be becoming very popular.

The home is about 1600 sq ft, two stories. Also I'd like to see if they can reroute the wires as the unit would be right under a window outside of the dining room.
Dual climate control for a single unit needs to be done at construction stage or unfinished basement stage for a 2 floor house.
It's not really any more efficient because basically you run individual trucks of supply air per zone you want to control usually each floor and have a bypass in the mech. Room to get rid of the extra air. It's onlygood to maintain a more even temp throughout the house not for efficiency.

Cost will vary greatly depending on how many seer you want (efficiency)

I'm doing a reverse of this test with my house, seeing as I bought it with no working HVAC. I'll be installing a new 2 ton unit shortly, but right now I'm using 2 small window units, 1 8000btu, the other 5000btu. I'm covering about 600SQFT with these units and my bill right now is so cheap that I don't even want to get a new whole house unit, there is no way it will be any cheaper than it is right now. I'll probably end up using these units every summer.
