I did swap the input flange, but since the diff dimensions are different, the stock driveshaft wouldn't reach. It wasn't a matter of not being able to bolt up, it was a matter of getting the driveshaft to even reach the input flange. To solve this, I needed a driveshaft that was longer.
Found it

So im in the middle of this DIY for my 2002 330ci coupe and I've hit a snag...
The diff is mounted and im in the process of putting the new donor driveshaft on.
The driveshaft i bought is from a 2003 325i, and even after i stretched in from loosening the spline, it's not nearly long enough.
Can anyone confirm that I bought the wrong driveshaft, or i need one from a coupe?
It seems the shorter end of the driveshaft that mates to the tranny is much shorter on the one donated from the 325i, vs. my stock 330 one..

The diy said ANY e46 so...

Resurrection - what year X3's can you pull for a 3.91/3.64 rear. Also the Manual or the Auto Trans. i am not trying to change drive shaft since mine is already custom made in carbon fiber from PST.

Or if anyone knows the year ranges for the Z4 3.64 rears that would be awesome

Thanks Everyone!

If you have a custom driveshaft this swap may not work, unless your driveshaft is adjustable in the middle like the stock ones.

I went through 3 driveshafts trying to find one that would fit, until I just got one like in the thread, one from a 323i.

I got my 3.91 from the rear of an 2005 x3 2.5L auto. Only auto 2.5L x3 have the 3.91.

Hope this helped.

If you're still going to run Nitrous, I would recommend Against getting a 3.91 ratio.

i do still plan on it and have the kit mostly completed. the 3.91 will be strictly for Auto-x and daily driving. i will throw in the 3.46 when i run the tanks. its takes longer to jack the car and get ready then it does to actually take it out and in . In/out in about 45min or so.
