Only experience with guns let alone FA is from TV, and we know how accurate that is.

"Instructor" was a moron and it was only a matter of time.

This has happened before and will happen again

There's no legitimate reason to be allowing a 9yo with no experience to be shooting an UZI.

Which one of those shows a non trained 9 year old successfully and safely handling a full auto uzi?

There is a big BIG difference between someone who has been shooting for years and worked their way up to different guns than a 9 year old shooting a full auto uzi.

And regardless of the videos, IMO and only IMO she should not handling some of those weapons. A 9 year old is a 9 year old.

^this.

A 9yo girl shooting a .22LR rifle is perfectly fine, and is exactly where a 9yo should start shooting. That's how you develop skills. The USMC still uses .22LR rifles to train Scout/Sniper candidates the basic fundamentals of marksmanship. Seems like the parents of the 9yo with the Uzi should have done the same thing. This is especially important considering that the average 9yo girl is 4'4" and 65lbs.

It takes training to learn to shoot full auto. I am a certified LE Select Fire firearms intructor, and I can tell you that at no point during that video did I see that girl properly instructed on how to shoot that SMG.

Would you ever yourself or approve of another instructor instructing from the side of a shooter in the way he did? I mean clearly i would assume the answer would be no.

I would have assumed that anyone who absolutely was forced to have a small girl shoot a full auto mini uzi would do so while having his hands, both of them, on top of her hands while she manipulated the trigger on your command.... with only 3-5 rounds in the mag.

Seems to me.....

1. No legitimate reason for her to need to experience full auto.

2. Even ignoring #1, It could have been done safely.

People are poo-pooing her parents for condoning this activity, but parents who don't own guns are stupid when it comes to being at the range. If their professional instructor didn't have a problem with it, why should they? I feel the instructor is responsible for range safety when instructing new shooters and HIS lapse in judgment ultimately resulted in his death.

Of course that opinion is based on the limited amount of information i have seen. Sucks all around.

I very much agree that the culpability lies with the instructor. It's your responsibility as an instructor to safeguard your students and not put them in potentially dangerous situations. You are the one with experience, so it's your responsibility to know the limitations of the students, as well as your own. I'd be real curious to see what kind of background that instructor had prior to "instructing" how to shoot full auto.
