Thanks for the link. Says updated 8/13/2014 on the page. I put in 7 different E46 Vin #'s for cars from 1999 - 2002. Some 323i, 325i and 330i and none showed anything about an airbag recall. (did show the tailight ground problem on a few) Maybe since it's volentary it doesn't show up??

Did anyone that got a letter have something show up in the vin search above?

it sounds like this is meant to address a different issue, actually.

Your issue, and the one I've seen a few folks complain about here, appears to be a problem primarily with the control system for the passenger airbag(s). Obviously, you'd need a new airbag too, but the core issue is that they apparently just go off for no reason.

The issue BMW is addressing with this recall is the same one Honda had to recall airbags recently for. It sounds like they use the same supplier for the bag modules themselves, and they're suspicious enough that the parts may not work properly that the cost of the recall is worth it in order to avoid a lawsuit or damage to their reputation.

The database has been updated. I checked again this week and I'm on it now.
I called customer service to make sure they had my address. She said the letters were supposed to be out in August...

for those of you that have already gotten the recall done, how long did it take? Did they provide you with a loaner?
I know each dealer will be different. just trying to get an idea.

Stopped at the dealer to pick up a few small parts and had them scan my key for the recall but said mine had no recall campaigns. Didn't even seem to know about the airbag situation

Yepp, me, too. Wagons seem affected as well... No letter in the mail yet, either. Please post experience with the fix, once you folks get it done.

Btw, plugged in the VIN of my recently added 2011 X3 35i: That one is listed, too. For loose Vanos housing bolts. Same status: Remedy not available yet. My first thought: I don't care, since I will probably take the Vanos apart soon anyway to replace the gaskets... Or, have they finally put the right piston seal rings in there? Does anyone know if/when the Vanos seal ring issue has been fixed?

This may be old but its off the NHTSA

I have 3 E46's curious to see if all regions are aware of this.

Report Receipt Date: JUN 20, 2014
NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V348000
Component(s): AIR BAGS
All Products Associated with this Recall expand
Details close
3 Associated Documents expand
Manufacturer: BMW of North America, LLC
SUMMARY:
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is conducting a limited regional recall for certain model year 2001-2005 325i, 325xi, 330i, and 330xi, and 2001-2006 325Ci and 330Ci vehicles currently registered in Florida, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and equipped with Takata-brand air bag inflators. Upon deployment of the driver side and/or passenger side frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.
CONSEQUENCE:
In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of either of the frontal air bags, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking and potentially seriously injuring the vehicle occupants.
REMEDY:
BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the frontal air bag(s) free of charge. This recall is expected to begin during August 2014. Owners may contact BMW Customer Relations at 1-800-525-7417.
NOTES:
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

I just got off the phone with BMW NA. all of my coupes are under recall
11/00 09/01 04/02 Regensburg production

She said they are still going through VINS and letters had not gone out yet on most cars, but she ordered my parts on the spot. Instead of waiting I put myself at the head of the line, she took my info and said I should get the letters shortly.

At least there was no wait and the customer assistance was very good when I called.

Was at United BMW today returning my steering coupler, and inquired about the recall.I have a 330ci coupé, MY 2004, production 12/03. The recall is in their system, but the parts are not available to dealers...yet. Same goes for my father's 03/05 330ci 'vert. My SA told me that the letters will be mailed once dealers gain availability of the new inflators, at a date unknown to the dealership.

So that's that, I guess.

This recall has reached the UK - it was a job added to my MoT Inspection this morning. My local dealer knows I'm potentially troublesome so I assume they have pre-emptied this!! :-)

Just got a recall notice in the mail for my 2001 M3 - will contact dealer on Monday for details.

On a related note, I bought a new resistor/thermostat/whatever that many-pronged gadget is to control the AC fan speed. It requires digging in a bit under the drivers side dash to replace. I was wondering, what's involved in replacing the airbag, i,e, if they have to remove many of the same components to gain access to the airbag, would it be worthwhile to have the dealer do that resistor too, presumably for a modicum more rather than doing it myself, since they'll already be in there?

I just received my recall notice on this issue today.
Says that they don't yet have the parts, however, and that they will send another notice when they do.

My Ride: gobbles oil like a B
Got my 2 notices in the mail yesterday. Anyone have any idea why it takes 3 hours to do the replacement? Do they need to remove the entire dash to get at it or just that panel?
