Question

In order for the iPod interface to work, do you HAVE TO have the HK prem sound system or will the regular sound system be compatible?????

Also...is there a DIY for this? or at least something to help me get the dash apart to get behind the cd player?

I am not 100% sure if you have to have HK or not. The installation instructions do not indicate so. To the best of my knowledge, the only requirements are production year 09/02 or greater and no CD changer. There are a couple of DIYs out there that will help you get the dash apart (or most of it):

That's very good question and one I cant answer for sure. Dont hold me to this...but Im sure it can be done since the pin connector in the back of the radio are what basically controls the audio buttons on the steering wheel (ie, you swap four pins for the ones in the iPod adapter). If you're an audio or electrical handy man then Im sure you can improvise something...hope this helps

I just installed the ipod adapter myself this past week.

I absolutely love it.

I got mine from circlebmw. They told me the same thing, that is was on national backorder and that they might have some in two weeks. Two days later i got a confirmation email for my order.

They do get a few pieces every so often. When I called to add another item to my order I was too late as it already shipped. The rep i talked to said he got in 5 adapters that day and filled the orders that were already there, one of them being mine.

Just leave an order if you are sure you want one, they'll get to you quick.

Just a guess but think it means there is a bit of a "mirrored" look to it....sorta like the Quantum tint....!!?

We have a kit that will integrate the mini iPod into your MY2000 BMW, not a problem.

On the installation notes that come with it it mentions that the 09/02 applies to the Cassette stereo. Any 02 with in-dash CD should be fine.

iPod Interface Adapter
65-11-0-392-133

For those inquiring minds, the big difference bw/ two is: the Aux Audio input will NOT allow you to control your audio input (ie, mp3 player, iPod, etc...) via the audio controls on the steering wheel whereas the iPod Interface Adapter WILL !!!! The iPod Adapter comes with an iPod adapter, iPod I/F cable, radio R/F cable, iPod owners manual, and a grommet.

TopGeek -- You can get the iPod adapter at CIRCLEBMW.com for $119.99 (regularly $149.99). I had to wait a week since it was on backorder but it is a bit cheaper than other places so worth the wait for me. If got any questions with the install then shoot me a PM. I dont mind walking you through it. The pins on the back of the radio are a bit tricky.

Btw, you can get the Auxiliary Audio Input at CIRCLEBMW.COM for $31.96 USD or 26 EUROS.
PLUS, and this is a BIG plus... The adapter, or ICELink charge the ipod, the aux adapter obviously doesn't do that either.
