Question Project46 Installed but now the radio reception is horrible!

I did a search and from what I found one of the ballasts is dead? If anyone that had the problem in the past, what did you do to diagnose which ballast was bad? It seems like it will be a real pain getting the ballast out of the housing. Is there anything else that could be responsible for the degradation in reception? I love the look but now I can't listen to the radio without having a ton of static .

are your dde's grounded properly? you might want to try sanding down the grounding point first.. i just had a problem with a bad ballast too.. only one of your headlights is turning on right? if so, just take the ballast from the good side and put it on the other one.. and if it lights up, you'll know what your problem is.

I noticed this a while back and spoke to Matt @ Umnitza. This is a known problem with the Xtec xenon ballasts. Apparently they're not 100% shielded so they do produce an EM field.. enough to interfere with the radio.

BUT...

It should be barely noticable. In fact, the only time I've ever noticed it was when I was barely getting radio reception anyway... I flicked on my headlights and the reception got slightly worse.

Like you said, something is wrong with one of your ballasts. They shouldn't be interfering that much. With a decent signal from the station, the radio reception should still be perfect even with the headlights on.

not Xtec, it's likely with the DDE ballast.
You can take a look inside the high beam cover, it's in there, just check the connections.

So do you think the dde ballast needs replacing? I can determine which is the faulty ballast by visual inspection? Does the ballast come out easily? Thanks for the help Matt and everyone else.

Then how come it only happens on my car when I turn the headlights on?

For my car the reception is bad when the key is turned for acc. and then when the engine is started the reception is absolutely horrible. Anyone have any experience on changing this out? I get the feeling this is gonna be a nightmare....
