How much to add Nav to my car?

Guys,
How much would it cost to retrofit my car with the standard BMW nav screen to replace the stock BMW business cd player/head unit? How much woudl parts cost? Is it cheaper to do an aftermarket head unit with screen?

standard rule of thumb: nothing bmw makes is going to be cheaper than aftermarket.

and good luck installing a bmw nav after assembly...i don't know of any shops around here that will do it. i'd say your best bet it to do aftermarket.

I saw this which is what inspired me to do it.

How much would it cost to do a comparable aftermarket job? Which company would you recomend buying from?

I don't know if you know much about car audio, but you're wrong about that. I just installed an Eclipse AVN2454 on my car last week.

my mistake but i believe that kenwood won't fit due to the depth of the unit

The place where I got my headunit installed said that my install was as deep as it can go while still re-molding the AC duct with enough clearance for the wires, but someone managed to get their Kenwood double-DIN even deeper than mine. I found this picture on this forum.

It should be noted that a full depth double DIN won't fit in an e46 without modding the AC vents.

I would suggest the AVIC-N1, if you are looking for least expensive.

I just installed the AVIC-88 to go with my AVH 7500 HU. I love it. It would cost ya more $$, but, IMO, its worth it.

If car audio isn't your thing, look for a reputable shop. Sound Innovations in Hayward, CA did mine, and I couldn't be happier with it. Now, if Pioneer would just come out with a CD Changer that played MP3 cds, or an IPod interface similar to the new alpine units, I would be all set.
