hey, i live 20 blocks away from that exit. our neighborhood isnt the greatest at night. how do u manage to keep your car from being stolen or ripped up considering the fact that most the houses in our neighborhood are brownstones without garages..

If it is anything like Jersey, you can't have anything on your side windows at all or windshield (below 4 inches). The rest of the car can be as dark as you want (as long as you have two side mirrors).

I have 35% all the way around without problem. (knock on wood ) Opening the sunroof is enough to let light in so a cop can see through it!

I actually live a couple of miles south of there in a much
safer neighborhood plus having a garage helps. I wouldn't bother
modding my car if i didn't have a garage.

Someone, help me understand this. If the below quote is 100% true for NY then why would a cop use a meter to check the tint VLT when tint is outright illegal. Am I missing something?

Example

4 inches / 35 % Film / 15 % Net / 5 % Net / 1994

A tint brow on the windshield cannot go no lower than 4 inches, 35% film may be applied to the front side windows, 15% light must go through the combined window film and windows for the rear side windows and 5 % light transmission is required on the rear back window and film combined. The year 1994 is the year that the law went into effect.

New Jersey
NO / NO / ANY / ANY / 198x

Enforcement Note : Illegal window tint can be the reason for failing state safety inspection.

New York
NO / NO/ NO/ NO / 1993

Note : Very strict law. Replacement glass that is tinted is allowed if and only if the original windows were tinted as well. Medical exemption is provided for with permission from Commisioner of Motor Vehicles.

They were doing new thing at the Brooklyn battery tunnel today.A nice sign that said,, Tint enforcement in progress'', and there was a few TBTA officers standing there waiting with the test meter, to bang out a ticket or two for illegal tint. Once you head toward the tunnel you have no where to go but drive by the cop. It looks like they are cracking down on tint. Ive got 20 percent but thats enought to get bagged..

Tint ticket experience

I got pulled over about 2 months ago for going 43 in a 35 they let me go for the speed but used their little device on my windows. I go to Just Tints in Astoria New York for all my tints he does an amazing Job there. Anyway, he told me the tins were 35% the cop said 31%. I got 2 tickets for my coupe and he said technically your not allowed to have anything under 75% in New York.... Which is very close to factory tint. Anyway I have my cour date in January.. Well see how it goes.

Tell them that you fixed it and they'll drop them down to 10$ each but you'll still have to pay the 50$ each that they can't lower it, atleast that's what happened to me when I had my old car who knows you might get lucky and they might even throw them away completely...GOOD LUCK
