oh god no!! you can buy the OEM alarm from either www.pacificbmw.com or www.circlebmw.com for about $225 and have your dealer install it for under $100. you can install it yourself, but you still need the dealer to activate it.

I just finished installing mine yesterday. There are three pieces to install - motion sensor, incline sensor, and siren. By far the siren is the toughest to install, but it's not super hard either. I have an appt. this week to get it activated.

Oh, and I got mine from Circle BMW (along with my UGDO). My local dealer likes to charge MSRP on accessories. My local dealer can go to hell.

I'm debating whether or not to get the factory alarm or a aftermarket as well. the only reason is for the shock sensor. is there any way to program a aftermarket alarm with the BMW key-remote?? or is there anyway to add a shock sensor to the OEM alarm?

I'm trying to find a way to add shock sensor to OEM also. As soon as I find out, I'll post it. I'd really like to add a microwave sensor though.

I spoke to my dealer

My dealer charges $98/hour .. they said that it would take approximately 3 hours to install the alarm.. so that means about $300!!!! is this worth it ? oh, btw -of course i purchased the alarm elsewhere..

OEM Alarm is very easy to DIY.

you can get it for roughtly $225 from pacificBMW or circleBMW and it shouldn't take you more than 90mins to install it. You dealer should be able to activate it for under 1/2 hours of labor.

Good luck!

Hey, I can actually say this now, do a search! I've answered this 4 times in the last week. But anyways, I got mine for 225 at www.circlebmw.com, install took me 1/2 and hour and dealer activated it for free

I just got back from the dealer right now, and they did it for free as well! I was actually shocked, because one service guy told me it would be $50. Guess the service dudes were in a good mood today

Do you guys think that the OEM alarm is needed ? or better than nothing ? I mean if a car thief is determined to steal the car, nothing can stop them right ?
