Torn between 540/6 and 330i/5 ..What to do?
I am interested in tracking the car, and obviously a 330i is more nimble then the E39, but what about on a speedway? Would the 540i still be too big and heavy? Its just that......V8=big grin factor in my head. A lot of M5 parts could be thrown on the E39 too such as bumpers, mirrors, wheels, etc.........But I love the E46......Ofcourse you could say E46 w/ a supercharger, but I want to stick w/ a n/a car. Tell me what you guys think. Maybe Samir could build me a race motor out of the 4.4L. :-)

I know I always say this...
.. but drive both through a variety of conditions and you'll know what you prefer.
As for me the 5er is just too big - too much weight, too much back behind me for real fun in the twisties. Just not tossable enough If I could have two cars I'm sure I'd enjoy the 540 for the rest of the time though - there is something to be said for the V8 :smile: (mmmm M3 with V8 huh?

The 540i is great, especially with the M-Sport package that we can get here, in Canada. (The M-Sport pack includes the M5 look alike body kit, and upgraded sport suspension.) However, there will be a new 5 series coming out late this year or early next year. Your call. Personally, I would wait for the new Audi S4 that will be out in Sept.

If your gonna track the car a bunch stick with the e46, 5's are too heavy but fast though.

i was in the same boat. i wanted a four door but something that drove like a sports car. the 540 is a kickass ride but it felt kinda big for me. the 330i was perfect. nice combo of lux and sport. plus with the money i saved i could mod the shlt outta the 330. another reason i went for the 330i instead is cause i love the way it looks and the 5er replacement is around the corner.

Are you talking about getting the 540i new? If that's the case, then I would advise you to get an E46 M3.
If your budget is more for a new 330/used 540, and you're looking for a trackable car, I feel your best bet is an E36 M3. All that money you save for mods will get you a killer track car that looks real good on the street too :smile:
