Lightbulb Got Bugs?

This is a simple and quick DIY for those of us who travel in the more bug-plagued areas ...

Required:
1. Flashlight/trouble light
2. Scissors
3. 12 twist ties
4. Black plastic screen mesh

Instructions:
1. Cut two rectangular pieces of black plastic screen mesh 16" x 10"
2. Wrap the screen mesh behind the kidney grill and attach the mesh to the grill by sticking twist-ties through the mesh and looping it through the plastic kidney grill tabs. (Black plastic tabs that hold the kidney grill onto the steel hood)
3. Attach the mesh with at least six twist ties, two on the top, two on the bottom, and one on each side.
4. Carefully tuck the mesh in and trim off the excess
5. Repeat the process for the other kidney grill

You won't win any fashion awards for this "mod", but the screen will block out the bugs and keep them from clogging and rotting out your radiator. Replace the screen whenever necessary.

but wouldn't the engine be running hotter coz you don't have as much free flowing air under the hood?

perhaps, but you could probably argue that the bugs clogging the radiator are doing the same amount of harm.

You are splitting hairs, the reduced air flow is so minor it won't make a difference to the engine ...

also, if you have stock intake, it sucks in air through the kidney grills. i'm sure the effect would be negligible, but just something for people to think about before attempting the mod...
