How to Move the Ac Controls...Help!!

Does anyone know how to move the ac controls from under my cd player to the lower portion where my sunglass holder is? Is there a DIY on it?

Also any pictures on the spacing that is between the controls and the air ducts. Has anyone measured it before?

You need a new bracket from BMW (~$30 piece) to relocate the AC controls. Relatively simple procedure.

On the original location, the depth is shallow (without measuring, I would say around 4 inches, give or take).

I would also like to do this DIY. If anyone posts how to do it I would love to know for when I get some gauges to put there!

I don't have any pics, but here's the steps:
1. get the carrier for the AC controls (bottom frame).
2. pull sunglass pocket out, remove 2 screws.
3. pull shift boot, remove two screws.
4. lift shift surround (or remove), remove two screws
5. carrier comes out, replace with new carrier after re-routing AC wires
6. AC controls just pull out.

Is that for older or newer E46? There are two different types, the older cars had individual buttons in the middle, the newer ones just have one long piece that houses all the buttons (DSC, heated seats, etc)

The bracket is used when the car is equipped with the nav system. The HVAC controls are installed in place of the "sunglass holder." The bracket holds the switches for the DSC, etc., too.

Thanks guys I think I am going to move my AC down and then make a custom CF panel that will hold two gauges and a custom I-pod holder in that spot. I was thinking about an exhaust temp and volt meter for now. When I supercharge my car I will not have to spend time making a custom plate for the gauges and can put the necessary gauges in a plate that is already made.
