Seller had all positive feedbacks and no negative ones. The box itself looked like it was worth $85 bucks, let alone the JL subs. I would have tried to get more info or pics of the subs..........but that was a very tempting price.

Re: ?????

Those aren't 12w7's - the w7 line doesn't have the huge JL logo in the dustcap (its actually inverted now).

It looks to me like maybe 10w3s or 10w0s (I think its the 0 line). The older generation of subs.

I'd be afraid of getting a ported box if you plan on replacing the subs themselves, since each sub has different port requirements.

As you can tell,I dont know a ton about audio. I want some bump, but not a TON. My friend has 2 JL 15" and at full blast its too much. Is a ported box better?

A ported box typically gives you more "boomy" bass and appropriately more volume, as opposed to a sealed box that gives you more punchy bass more geared towards sound quality. The reason why I warned against replacing the subs in a pre ported box is because the ports (holes in the box) changes the frequency of the bass coming out. You basically need to "tune" a ported box specifically for a certain subwoofer. Its not a "one size fits all" thing.

Since you don't intend on replacing the subs, then I think its a good buy for less than $100. Even if these are the older JLs, that's a decent deal for a box and 2 JLs. Just hope the subs themselves aren't damaged.

I think he's just selling the box without the subs.

Find out what model of JL subs those are first (should be on bottom of speaker coil). When you know the model, then you can find out what the RMS power (watts) specs are and what the impedence is (dual voice coil 4 ohms, 2 ohms, etc.). That would help determine what size amp you should get. Basic rule is to use an amp that can provide the RMS or continuous power rating (watts) of your sub or better. If sub rating is 250 watts RMS then use an amp that can supply 250 watts RMS or more (don't forget to multiply this by the number of subs you are using).

Yeah, I think because he's willing to let the whole thing go for so cheap, it sounds like its for only the box. If you read the entire ad, it IS for the box AND subs.
