Question Stereo question

I'm new to this board and first want to say hello to everyone

I bought a new and my first BMW 3-series touring a few months ago. The car is excellent but I was really disappointed with the stock stereo (BMW Business CD w/o any HK or other extra system). So the first thing on my list is to add an extra amp and a sub as many of you have done.

I've taken a look at your setups and info on this issue - thanks for the ideas and technical tips. What I'm still not completely familiar with is that how is the audio system is set up without any nav / HK systems. I live in Europe (Finland to be exact) and the HK system was so damn expensive that I didn't get it. I still want to keep the stock head unit just because of the look.

My question is that is there always a separate amp or does the cd unit itself have an amp that is used with the basic setup? If you have an extra amp where is it located in the touring? It is not in the left rear end of the car as many of you have. It could be on the right side close to the rear wheel - have to check that.

Any ideas? Are there many europeans or people having a touring on this forum?

Not sure about the touring, but the non-HK business CD for the sedan does not have a separate amp. I believe it is integrated with the head unit itself. With that being said, it is very easy to add an aftermarket sub and amp to the system, without replacing the existing head unit.
