Track Tire Question???
I have a quick tire question. I'm looking at doing a BMWCCA DE in mid November but I currently have Pirelli P-Zero Nero M&S on front and S-03's on the back of my car (2002 330i). I have only done one DE so by no means am I tearing it up out there but I was thinking that the different tire situation might be a problem. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated...
Thanks... |

The Atlanta BMW CCA won't let you on the track with mixed tire types. I won't drive my car on the street with mixed tires period, as you'll note in another thread over the last few days on the tire forum.
And belive me, PZero Nero M&Ss dont' like the track if you push it - given this is only your 2nd DE, that may not be too big of an issue......... They'll be cupped and may chunk before you know it if you lean on them - I went through a set last year in 6500 miles with 6 days on track. Wrong tire for me...............not a bad tire. Get some SO3s for the front.................but get at least 500 miles on them before you get to the track (the more the better), or you'll be fighting greasy tires, as well as the shimmy you get out of a full tread to start with. But again, if your new to track time, and don't push it a lot, the shimmy shouldn't be much if any of an issue.

I think the groups I run with also require the four tires to be the same (confirmed at the time of inspection). No comment about the Pirellis, SO3s are great.

Hows the wear on the rear S03's? If there good get new front S03's. Or just get an entire new set of tires.
