to 4 channel or not to 4 channel?
I have an alpine cda-7897 and a sub amp with 2 10" subs. I am comtemplating getting a 4 channel amp to power my stock speakers. The amp is a PPI PCX-480 (80x4 watts). The question is, will it be worth it to get this 4 channel amp for my stock speakers or just a waste of money? I am worried that if I decide to get a 4 channel in the future, the PPI PCX series will be out of production & I currently have a PPI PCX & I would rather have matching amps.. what do you think?

stock speakers have a low resistance. I dont think the ppi will run them. Might as well get the ppi and change out the speakers at the same time.

I dont have $$ for speakers.. or do I know that I want to put that money into speakers.. so no big diff in sound if I do this?
Then again.. I would have the option to upgrade speaker in the future.. |

Right now, I have a 5-channel V12 Alpine running my interior stock components, and then a sub in the trunk. You can hear the difference, but I'm sure upgrading the stock components would make it even better. Future mod.

it will be worth it... besides, modding is for most people a progressive, step by step thing. change the amp, then later on, change the speakers.... not everyone can afford to go sick on the car straight away...

so will any amp work with the HK speakers? I have an MTX 4-channel amp in my truck that i'd like to move over to the m3 if it will work with the stock HK speakers... then i'll have my xtant x1001 to run the sub(s). will the MTX do the job?
thanks, Wes

I think a 4 channel would work with HK or non HK speakers. Tricky part is wiring up the speaker wires to the stock speaker wires & bypassing the factory amp.

the trickiest part would be accepting the signal from the head unit. I'm not familiar with that particular PPI model, so I don't know if it accepts balanced differential signals. Do a search, wiring and all the other stuff has been discussed many times before.

True, that is tricky, you should just get line out converters. Luckily I have an Alpine HU so I have the Preouts.

hehee, lucky you! If you want to preserve the balanced line signals, get an amp that accepts them. As best as I know, these are JL, Xtant, some PPI models, Butlers, A/D/S and Audison.
