should i remove my cat

i got a 2000 323ci some one told me i will get like 15 more hp if i remove my cat because smog laws changed in 2000 or something like that is this true if so will it sound like a rice rocket or what kind of noise will it make or is it just a dumm idea thanks

And please don't remove your cat to gain hp. There's a billion theories of how to gain cheap hp, but they don't work well w/ modern day cars. If you want hp, be willing to pay for it. Most cars that go cat-less have extensive engine tuning done as well.

And I'm not trying to shoot you down so don't call me a cockface.
