1999,2000 E46 Rear Diffrential Carrier problems

Hello everybody,

I would like to let you know that BMW is totally aware of the problems with early model e46 rear subframe cracks, as outlined here:

http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html..._ID=TDR4675412

My car is suffering from the same problem and is set to be repaired (after some earnest discussion). This was a recall item in Germany and should have been recalled in the US, Canada and the UK.

I love my Bimmer and will buy a new one without hesitation, but this kind of problem should not happen to a car of this caliber. If you hear any clicking from the rear end of your car during initial take-off, or have a chance to look at it on the hoist make sure to inspect this rear left mount.

Demand repair as this is a known issue with several documented fixes within BMW's service bulletins! Do not take "off warantee" as a reason. I wouldn't expect this kind of damage from an 85 civic much less a 5 year old bimmer.

Good work getting the problem addressed as a recall! And thanks for the info that subframe damage is a recall-item in Germany and the UK.

Good to hear you are getting some action from the dealer. Did you go through BMWNA or BMW Canada, or just the dealer?

I did it through my dealer - I have a great service manager, luckily.
