My Ride: BMW E46 (2000)
VDO Navi

Hi all,

After using TomTom navigation for a while, which btw works pretty well, it still bothers me having this 'thing' hanging around over my dash; it doesn't look very nice of course. So I'm thinking about installing an aftermarket navigation solution integrated into my dash. I read about the VDO MS 5000 system, there's a mounting kit available for E46's which replaces the ashtray and sunglass holder.

My first question is: will this also work with the newer, dvd driven, MS 5500? I'd think it would, because the size of the screen is the same as the MS 5000.

My second question is: did anybody here do a write up about how to install it?
Is it hard to install, i.e. do I have to remove the backseat?
Before I forget it's an E46 sedan.

I saw this thread: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=102532
but there's no description about the installation.

I hope you guys have some answers for me. Thanks in advance.
