Official Press Release from ACS RE: E46 M3 dubs

Press Release No. 16/2001
Adrenalin boost to 20 inch - the AC Schnitzer "S3Sport" based on the BMW M3 (E46)

High performance technology paired with sporting comfort makes the new M3 a unique vehicle in its segment. And for owners of very high performance cars, professional tuning is very much in demand. So for the BMW M3, AC Schnitzer has developed an extensive range of special accessories which optimise the basic sporting concept further to meet the demands of these drivers.

Specially set up suspension components form the heart of the developments in the sporting tuning range. Depending on personal preference, owners of the M3 can choose between a sports-comfort AC Schnitzer sports suspension, or a racing sports suspension with adjustable set-up and height. The special set-up of the AC Schnitzer racing sports suspension gives the customer the opportunity to experience pure driving pleasure combined with corresponding suitability for everyday use. Although the racing sports suspension was tailored to the highest demands of sporting driving pleasure even in its original form, AC Schnitzer now offers enthusiasts of driver training courses an even more refined solution. Both suspension variants lower the BMW by around 35 mm.

Another chassis highlight is the new aluminium "Racing strut brace". Specially developed for the M3, the "Racing" is even more stable and prevents torsion in the front of the vehicle. The range is completed by the removable aluminium strut brace for the rear.

The new AC Schnitzer racing rims Type III in 20" for the M3 are celebrating their world premiere at the IAA. This wheel has been developed in extensive tests and will be available to enthusiastic customers in the autumn. The wheel range is completed by the AC Schnitzer Type II and Type III alloy or racing rims in 18" or 19" diameter. The maximum wheel and tyre dimension on the front is 8.5J x 20" wheels with 245/30 ZR 20 tyres and at the rear 9.5J x 20" with 275/25 ZR 20.

The latest development in the AC Schnitzer wheel range is the polished alloy and racing rims. The innovative process technology of chip-ceramic polishing in the wet process gives a high-tech appearance without any loss of quality. This is due to a new production method which achieves the high strength surface composition of a conventionally painted wheel. The new polished AC Schnitzer Type II and Type III alloy and racing rims will shortly be available for all current models in the BMW E46 range in various 18", 19" and 20" sizes. For the tyres, AC Schnitzer recommends high performance tyres from Continental and Michelin.

Faster and more precise gear changes give an adrenalin boost and perceptibly improve a car's acceleration. So AC Schnitzer offers thoroughbred racing technology with the AC Schnitzer Short Shift shorter gear travel.

Optimum driving behaviour, good acceleration and the matching sound are undoubtedly some of the most important attributes of a thoroughbred sports car. For this reason, the AC Schnitzer engineers have developed a sports rear silencer of V2A special steel with two chrome-plated tailpipes which gives the M3 an even more striking sound while further optimising gas flow and hence response behaviour.

Perfect balance and an individual appearance were the designer's specifications. The result is an optimised aerodynamic package which offers the customer various conversion stages which, individually or in combination, increase the downforce on the front axle at high speeds. The basis is the carbon fibre front spoiler which is supplemented in the second stage with front flippers. Additional stability - especially at high speeds - is achieved by polished aluminium braces.

At the rear, a rear roof spoiler and our own design multipiece racing rear wing are used. The AC Schnitzer rear wing has its roots in motorsport, and has already been tested extensively in the AC Schnitzer S3 A.R.T. study now approaching series production. The outstanding visual indication of its heritage lies in the complex construction combined with aluminium feet. The finishing touch is the AC Schnitzer rear diffuser with carbon-fibre wing profile which harmoniously integrates the AC Schnitzer sports rear silencer and impressively completes the overall visual impression of the rear - which will certainly be the usual view.

As well as the external special accessories however an extensive interior range has also been developed to enhance the ambience of this thoroughbred sports car. Here only the highest quality materials have been used which have their origins in motorsport. The AC Schnitzer carbon fibre interior trim in black-silver, a special fabric combination of silver and black carbon fibres, sees its premiere here. The new AC Schnitzer 3-spoke sports airbag steering wheel will also shortly be available in silver carbon fibre or optionally in black. The motorsport atmosphere in the cockpit is further enhanced by the aluminium footrests, pedals, handbrake handle and also gear knob, and the foot mats. Last but not least, the AC Schnitzer full leather interiors available on request in various colours and designs complete the interior range.

AC Schnitzer is also developing tailor-made solutions in the field of traffic telematics and Car Infotainment for optimum integration. All components are developed in collaboration with the specialist and partner VDO Dayton.

Thank you! AC Schnitzer is certified to DIN EN ISO 9001
