Alcohol

Liqour vs. Beer ?????? Which is worse??? Am I right to assume that a shot of vodka is not as bad as a pint of beer ????

Or is alcohol, just alcohol

Alcohol has 7 calories per gram.

Straight vodka is a little better for you than beer (about 70-80 cal per shot I think). The problem is when you mix it with sugary mixers.

Although, new beers like Becks Premier Light have only ~65 calories, which isnt bad.

Still you have 8-10 shots or light beers and it adds up. Then you are also more likely to eat more when you're drunk. Keep it in moderation, 4 drinks should get you a nice buzz and only add about 300-350 calories if you do it right.

Technically clearer liquor is better for you but honestly if you are drinking, it's still bad for you. In any case, alcohol in moderation can be tolerated without any weight gain issues. The problem becomes moderation, binge drinking really is not the way to go.

Why is it that i'm only tempted to smoke (cigarettes) when i'm drinking. It's like a sudden uncontrollable urge. Same thing with food. I always end up smoking cigarrettes and eating bucket loads of food when I drink

Besides loosing your inhibitions what other theories do you guys have for this...errr..."phenomenon"...???

I think you hit the nail right on the head. You're more likely to say and do things you would not while sober, so a certain level of self control goes away. Same with eating and drinking? I've sat on a couch wasted munching chips or cookies many a time hahah.

I dont think alcohol actually cayses a physical or chemical reaction that makes you want to eat or smoke. Just makes you do things you want to while sober anyway.

its a social act. when you are drunk you are much more social, thus have a tendency to partake in those activities

I'm the same way. When I go out to a club or a bar and drink, I smoke non-stop. I find it odd because I never crave it any other time. I guess classical learning could explain it, but ehhh .

BTW, you can help to offset the negatives of alcohol by dancing it off

My Ride: is better than yours
If you plan on drinking, don't work out that day. If you do, it will be a complete waste of time. Not just because of the calorie intake, but because alcohol has a reverse effect on muscle building. Just to let you know.

well perhaps running on those days will be better than lifting

well if not for the muscle, will it negate the other benefits of lifting (fat burning, metabolism increase ,etc)?

I mean, if one is going to drink regarless, i'd say there would still be some benefit of working out that day

oh yah,

being a lightweight is not so bad. I could do 8-10 shots of tequilla before I was set for the night, but lately I kinda fast before i drink so I can get buzzed off 3-4 shots. It's cheaper and less detrimental to your health

Lol actually you have it the wrong way round. Alcohol is only detrimental to your health (your liver specifically) if you pile it on an empty stomach or don't give your body a chance to rest or catch up between drinks. Drinking on an empty stomach overloads your liver especially with shots and increases the risk of alcohol poisoning and longterm liver damage. If you have 8 shots and a meal somewhere in there or at least give your body rest periods between each shot it greatly decreases the damaging effects of alcohol on your body.

Have a small meal always before going out and drinking liquor. Whats a couple of bucks when it comes to your health

Doesn't alcohol also dehydrate?
A mate of mine always drinks a litre of water before heading to bed after a nights out drinking, and he has technically no hangover on the next morning...
At least that's how he explained it to me...
