Postworkout Shake
exactly how long do you have to drink a PWO shake for it to be the most effective. since i work out at school and wont be able to make my shake at home until 30 to 45 minutes after i workout, is that too much of a time for the shake to work effectively? i was thinking of just making the shake and bringing it to the gym? thanks guys.

premix the shake in your shaker bottle before you head out to the gym. Just don't add water. Then after your workout, just add water, shake, and drink up. You should be having about 1/2 of the first shake within the first 5 minutes right after your workout, then sip on the rest of the shake for the remaining 40 minutes.

thanks bimmerchop, you've been very helpful. by the way, i read on an older thread that you mix two other things with your protein shake, how important are those things? would i be okay just mixing the whey with water?

ok, so the two things are malto and dextrose. are they essential to a PWO shake? or would whey and water be fine?

Whey and water would be horrible. Protein, though it seems it would be, is not the most important thing to get to your body immediately after a workout.
The most important ingredient of a post workout shake is simple carbs like dextrose. The mixture should be something like 75% simple carbs 25% protein. The meal after the postworkout shake is the optimal time for the protein. Also, you may try splitting your post workout shake in half. Drink half right before the workout and half after. |
