I just installed audio in my parents new house. 5.1 in the LR, 2 speakers in each...kitchen, dining rm, fr & r porches, master bed. Depends how sophisticated you want it & if you are going to run an A BUS, volume control system.
I got all my speakers at cost, 67% off msrp...so it wasn't expensive at all. I got the speakers for about 57 bucks ea. I used all in ceiling speakers except for the rear porch. Just have to pick up a sub and receiver. |

You connected all of them to ONE source? Or can different speakers have different sources? I want to do this for my uncle, but need to keep cost down.

It was new construction and my parents had input on where the wires go. Currently, as I will probably change this, the living room is on one source and the rest of the house is on another.
You can connect the speakers however you want. Since my folks living room will be used 90% for music and 10% movies I am going to rewire the dining room and the kitchen with the living room for additional zones of listening on that one source. |

. . Multi-room audio varies as much as cars do. You wire several rooms together running off a good stereo receiver and spend as little as $200-$300 per room plus labor. You can go to a more flexible system which allows different sources to be played in each room but it will cost more ($1000+ per room x 4 or 6 rooms.) Check out www.Russound.com and www.NilesAudio.com and www.NuvoTechnologies.com . I have the Nuvo Concerto system along with the AM/FM/Weather/XM tuner. It has 6 fullsize keypads plus I bought 2 additional keypads and two amps for a total of 8 rooms that can each listen to 6 different sources independantly. I love the system and I believe it is the best value. I used Niles speakers and a Polk PSW650 sub in the Master. I own a home theater company so I have seen em all. . . .
