Bought a '83 E30 318i - Transformation TIME!!!

Hi guys, i've got some good news. While im looking for an e46 330ci to buy int the next couple of weeks, i was also looking for a reasonably priced car to start my modifications on and ofcourse start track racing. My only plan was to get the e46 330ci and make it a weekly car, but i found a 1983 white 318i 2 door in mint condition for a good price and i bought it today for a 1000 aus dollars lol. They are normally valued at around 4-5000 dollars aus. But it has a bit of damage on the exterior where it needs to get the front left panel changed. The gearbox is gone, so i need a new tranny. Apart from those damages, the car is in perfect condition. It has 197000kms on the clock and after i get the front left panel and tranny replaced i am going to let the transformation take a START. I thought it would be a good idea to test and see how good my tuning and styling experiences would turn out and i think the e30 318i coupe is the right car for me to do that in. I do have photos of the 318i, which i took today and i will put them on after i come back from work. From a week from now, i will try to get the front left panel fixed and im also trying to find a tranny for it. I also should be able to buy a good condition 330ci in the next couple of weeks as im trying to save a little bit more cash for it.

E30 318i Transformation Plans:
Candy Custom Paint Job
New Engine Transplant (e30 M3 transplant ot e36 m3)
Drop Ride Height
Racing Wheels
Exhaust System
CAI
Possibly Turbo / SC
Intercooler
Forged Pistons
Injectors
Boost Controller
ECU

Put a Wankel in it!!!!!! Yes! a 13B or 20B twin-turbo would be insane! I recall an article in BMWperformance mag where an E30 had a single turbo 13B rotary. Have fun! My E30 325is is now my dad's drive around beater, but he loves it.

LMAO! Man that would be insane, your right, but it's going to involve some heavy tuning, what about reliability of the 13B's??? I do love rotaries but i don't know, i would prefer an e30 or e36 M3 engine. More reliable and more BMW

Go with an e36 M3 engine with technique tuning stage II turbo or, if you want to get crazy, e36 M3 with a custom turbo.

I think an E36 M3 engine transplant is a better fit than the sometimes tempermental S14 block. Granted the S14 variant saw time turbo'd in the 80's at hp levels over 1200, but on street it's too thrashy. But if you go with an S14 over the S50/S52, don't forget to install an oil pan baffle! Sustained hard turns have been known starve the S14 engine block of oil, causing it to sieze! Good luck!

(Sorry no wankel, but you're SO right about the reliability issues! Sad thing is the Rotary SHOULD be more reliable given the only moving parts are the rotors and the eccentric shaft! But those darn Apex seals, lol!)
