You can get ABS from home depot. I used a heat gun to put a 90 degree bend in the ABS. Worked out good.
I have never seen ABS @ Home Depot before. In what section do they have it? I normally get mine from Select Products, but it is a good thing to know when I am out and are in a hurry.

You've never seen it there? All the home depots have it. I can't believe and idiot like you can't find it.

just search the yellow pages for a plastic supply house - someone who cuts plexiglass should have it...

You could also stop by a local stereo shop. If they are nice, they might sell you/give you a piece.

Once you modify the A/C vents, do you have to fabricate a custom bracket to mount these...

... I am not talking about the bexel on the sides of the face plate, I mean the brackets that the unit would sit in.

Thanks

It depends. Some will come with a cage and/or brackets which makes things very easy. Otherwise, look at how Rcurley55 did his. He basically make a piece of MDF, attached it to the head unit. You will need longer screws...go to home depot.

Then he made some MDF brackets that were screwed to the carrier from the top. Then he screwed the brackets together. The time consuming part is lining the head unit up with the trim. You actually have to angle the head unit slightly downward.

Cutting the ductwork is the easy part.

Awesome

Ive been debating between a pop out head unit and this double DIN, this definately seals the deal. Looks so clean, I hope to have the same up soon. Awesome work.

I never angled mine downward - this is because I chose to recess my head back further then most. The trim piece could then make up the distance - I think it looks best that way rather then some of the other installs I've seen - just a personal opinion.

I had to on mine to get the antenna plug to clear the vents. I could have cut the vents a little deeper but oh well.

Also, I had a real bad glare, so angling it downward cut down on the glare slightly.

This has always been my concern with these units - I know the issue is there in carputers, I guess it's also the same with car audio specific gear

makes sense considering the touchscreen technology isn't any different.

It's not a problem with all. I had an alpine flipout when I first got my E46 and it sucked worse that a carpc lcd. then i got a Pioneer and the difference was amazing. It was perfect during the day. All the Pioneers I've tried have been great.

hmmm - good to know - I'm really concerned about this. I had originally intended to keep the factory head, but after driving my brother's 330 with that POS icelink in there (I just can't stand the interface - and I'm no numbskull) I think I need another way of integrating my ipod - the alpine high speed connection seems to be the best out...so I may go to widescreen sooner then I originally thought.

My Pioneer flipout never had a glare issue.

I'm about to chuck this POS Eclipse iPod adaptor out my window. Don't buy an Eclipse with the hopes that they have a great iPod interface. Although it does display the entire title.
