Gary: How about just Avon Tech M550's for the rear?

Gary,

I'm currently running the stock 17" Conti's for all four wheels. The rears are down to the wear bars after about 35k miles. The fronts are still fine. I'm thinking about getting the Avon Tech M550 A/S for the rear and leave the Conti's on the front. Do you think that'll work?

Also, I've seen great reviews on the TireRack website about the M550 from people who've only driven them for a couple thousand or even a few hundred miles. The reviews from those who've had them for a longer period of time are not so encouraging. They're noticing much louder road noise and bad tread wear. Do you agree with what they're saying?

Thanks in advance for your help!

The M550A/S is a great tire, but being an all season it should not be put in the rear mixed with a summer tire up front. Most tires get louder as they wear, and our experience so far with the M550 has been very good.

Thanks for the reply, Gary. My stock Conti's are actually all-seasons.

Not the greatest match since they are different speed ratings, but not unsafe since you'll have the better tire in the rear.
