Exclamation problems with 528i....

Here it goes, my cousin has got a 528i, sport package, auto, and its got approx 145,000. Well One day about a month ago she was leaving her school (shes a teacher) and the car didnt start, and the battery indicator was on as well. After unscuessfully trying to jumpstart it, she had the car taken to a reputable independent mechanic. He told her that it was her alternator, and had rebuilt it ($150)

After that the car ran fine, but the battery indicator would still ocassionally come on. Also about the same time she began to have alternator problems her tranny light began to come on (sprocket w/exclamation point). And when the tranny light would come on, the car would run very sluggish. the car most of the time would run fine, or if it didnt she then would turn the car off then back on, and the light would go away, also the car would run fine as well.

her questions are: Should the battery light have reset itself, since the alternator was rebuilt, or does she need to have it reset????? She would also like to know along with getting rid of the battery indicator what could be causing her tranny problems. Is it something with the tranny itself, or more like a computer/software issue???? and also if there Is any way that they are related, and reseting the battery light would also result in tranny problem going away.

I wasnt much help, I told her about turning the car off and on again to fix the tranny prob, but I thought that it would go away, or fix itself. another thing I told her was that she should take the car in when her indicators are on, so that maybe they can surely read up on the faults.

Anyone have any advice, or any answers to her questions???? She thanks and appreciates any advice or answers anybody has for her, as well as reading about this issue

if the alternator was fixed and problems still were present, i would have tested the battery.

replace the battery

tranny sounds like an unrelated issue - sounds like it's going into limp mode for some reason or another. I'd have the car brought to a shop to see if any codes are present in the system.
