e30 Project

Im looking to get my cousins 318 convertible, as a funcar/project car. The only problem is its got what amounts to 3000+ in repairs.

If any of you guys know e30's help me put these crazy prices into perspective. I feel confident that i can do most of the repairs, but maybe not without help.

-The car needs a new clutch, parts + labor was quoted at $1850, and this includes the flywheel surface. This was the diagnosis for that 'squealing' noise I mentioned that the car makes when the clutch pedal is depressed.

-The Idling problem I mentioned they said is due to it needing new Air Hoses. The hoses they said are cracked and it's not regulating the air flow properly. Parts & Laborwas estimated at $320.

-They also told me that the rear brakes need some work due to wear, parts & labor estimated at $443.

-Then there's the converty top- I took it to a place that only does tops, and they gave me an estimate parts & labor of about another $1600.

Found air boot from air flow meter to throttle body was cracked. This provides umetered air to the engine. That can cause engine to die. The air hoses to the pcv and the icv are also cracked. Reccomend replace all the air hoses."

"The clutch throw out bearing is making the screeching noise. Reccomend to replace the clutch."

These repairs cant really be that hard with a bentley manual and a good set of tools right?

Thanks for any help you can give me guys,
