4 hours in misting rain = 2 sets of Mycarr angel eyes installed!

Last night I helped two friends to install their Mycarr angel eyes kit, which they brought back from HK. The box came with 4 rings, and 2 power inverters. Then they bought 2 Bimmian relay kits, to which I added the DIY remote wire. $4 at a hardware store later, they bought metal tape and did the DIY metal backing mod.

One car is a Alpine White 323Ci, and one facelifted Jet Black 325i. Overall, the install was simple but slowed down due to rain. The rings went in perfectly on the 323Ci over factory projectors, but had spacing issues with the facelift car and its bi-xenon projectors. The rings then were adjusted once the inner headlight trim was installed, unfortunately one of the ring tabs seperated (not break) from the ring itself from excessive force (anger ), thus the far driver's side ring on the 325i is a bit crooked.

The total cost of the project = $40 Mycarr kit, $30 Bimmian relay kit, and $4 metal tape, misc. connectors as the Bimmian kit did not include wire splices nor connectors for the power invertors which cost ~ $10. Bringing a whopping total to $80 each . IMO for $80, the kit looks pretty damn good! Since both of them have 6,000K D2S bulbs, at night and day the color match is perfect.

Below are some pics:

The Mycarr kit

DIY Metal Backing

Bimmian Relay

DIY Remote wire with 10A fuse, excuse the bulky wire splice, no T-taps or butt connectors were available.

Relay and power installed (wires not organized yet)

ECU Tapped

All wires were hidden as much as possible, power wires to power inveters were zip tied to factory wiring, below is a pic of the wire rail going across the engine.

Rings mounted

Yours truly testing the remote wire to positive terminal to test the rings

Rings lit

Thanks for looking!

P.S. I wonder if I can become a regional installer for one of the sponsors, since no one is listed in Indiana.

It is widely available in Asia, and I think is what the $40 eBay kits are.

For 80$ you cant beat it. And for what consists of the kit, all angel eye kits, that is the right price. Angel eyes are way over priced IMO. Well at least back when I was in the market for them around 2 years ago

Thos are way better quality than my Euro 50,- angel eyes. I had them in a month and they are already flickering. Not to mention that to take them out and replace them in my compact i have to take off the bumper again...

very nice install though, it look damn good!

<-- so confused about which to get...

I dont wanna go cheap on a $44,000 (sticker) car, but wow there is quite a difference in pricing of this mod...

I just keep hoping the expensive kits will start coming down as most new BMW's allready have rings...

IMO the Chromium looks the best, but the $200 is a def turn off. However, it is worth the $ if you need the technical support and or for warranty issues later on.

wow well done

Personally, I would rather pay the money to buy the kit from Jlevi knowing that you don't have to worry about things not working and they have a lifetime warranty... but then again, I buy extended warranties from stuff at best buy

looks VERY good! wow! but IMO when messing with electrical stuff the extra $100 or so is SO worth it to me to keep everything reliable and clean. but nevertheless VERY nice!

I don't understand what you mean. Installing angel eyes is such an easy task, and only an elementary scale wiring needed. The $200 kits offer the exact samething as what was installed, 4 rings, 2 inverters, and a relay kit. The way I installed the kit is 100% identical to any other on this site, since we all used the same design SPDT relay. However, the $100 extra IS worth it to unexperienced people in terms of tech support, or those looking for a peace of mind in case a power inverter fries, or a ring cracks.
