High Beam Flashers stay on all the time - Normal?

I just recently got an '03 330xi with bixenon, and I've noticed some strange lighting behavior:

When the car is started and with low-beams turned off, the non-HID high beams closer to the grille come on, along with the high-beam indicator at the top of the gauge cluster. If I turn the HID low-beams on, the high beams stay on. While these lights are on, the fogs won't come on, even with the HIDs off.

Low selector, Highbeam stalk, HID Low, HID High, Non-HID high

Off, Middle, off, off, on
Off, Forward, off, off, off
Park, Middle, off, off, on
Park, Forward, off, off, on
On/Auto, Middle, on, off, on
On/Auto, Forward, on, on, off

Sometimes while fiddling with the lowbeam knob and foglight switch, the highbeam flashers turn off, and I can use the fog lights normally, which is what I want.

The only reliable way I found to turn them off is to turn off HIDs, and push the high-beam stalk forward. Are these daytime running lights, or is something not working right? Do they depend on whether it's light outside? Can I or the dealer turn these off so that they are only used for flashing by pulling the highbeam stalk forward?

Any help is much appreciated.

Those are called "daytime running lights" and they are programmed into the key's memory by the dealer.

It sounds like someone tried to hard wire your lights to stay on and they didn't do a very good job.

I would take the car to the dealer and have them fix it.

I had that option turned on and this is how it normally works:

Start car, light switch turned to either auto or off " daytime running lights are on
Light switch turned to "on" = Xenons on, daytime running lights off.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, since i just bought the car, I'll just go to the dealer and get the key and car reprogrammed.

It shouldn't be so difficult to turn off some dumb lights. Daytime running lights make me
