Interior LED Project In The Works - Wattage Concerns?
Hi All,
I'm going through the process of switching out most of of my interior lights to white LED's. In the end I'm hoping to change all of them with 6-LED white bulbs, with the exception of the bulbs for the foot wells and the vanity mirrors. I'll be using the bimmian xenon bulbs there. I'm wondering if I'm in danger of screwing up my cars electrical system. Anyone know if I should be using resistors or what not? Probably should have asked before I ordered the lights.....*sigh Last edited by hoppa79; 09-07-2006 at 11:23 PM. |

is it right that they come with built in resistors? if they do, then I think I'm set? |

That is whack yo I never heard of that before but... can I see a pic of the bulb?
And frankly built in resistors on your INTERIOR scares me. Those ohms equalizers get mad-hot (200degrees fahrenheit) The sockets these things go into are pretty brittle, there is fabricy stuff surrounding it, and the plastic is cheap enough that you can get bubbles if it gets hot enough. Actually where the hell would there be any space for built in resistors? Most of the sockets don't really allow any space for that at all, atleast in my 2001 330i. I hope you aren't getting these confused with Exteriors. Last edited by JmeC; 09-08-2006 at 12:40 AM. |

![]() Pic is from valenti: LED on the left, "xenon" bulb on the right. To me....the LED looks better than the Xenon seriously, do you think its wack? maybe too ricey? give me your thoughts Bulbs i got can be seen here: http://superbrightleds.com/mini-wedge.html The site describes the bulbs as so: * Drop in Replacement * Low Power (wattage) draw * Built-in current limiting resistors * Shock & Vibration Resistant * Long Life (10,000+ hours) * Low Heat Generation * High Intensity (for LEDs) * Instant ON/OFF * Monochromatic (pure) Color The more I'm looking into it, the less worried I am. If anyone knows of any problems, please post~ Thanks! Last edited by hoppa79; 09-08-2006 at 12:59 AM. |

I installed interior led's for the whole interior, minus the footwell lights. They all work perfectly and haven't given me any problems whatsoever for over a year already. IMO, it looks 10x better than xenon bulbs and are a lot brighter. For some reason, my interior lights don't work anymore once i try to put the led's in the footwell. But on my buddy's 330, his whole interior lights up perfectly with the led's.

It doesn't look ricey, especially considering the fact you can only replace the single-wedge based bulbs in your car. There doesn't seem to be an alternative to the long steel-tipped bulbs that go into the footwell and the main center ceiling light or your rear license plate lights on this site. Can you live with that?
And ya according to these guys they have resistors built in, meaning these things can get mighty hot. It's a risk, but I doubt you'll have interior lights on long enough for it to do anything at all. |

http://superbrightleds.com/festoon.html the only problem im having is that I can't have all LED's for my interior. One of the footwell lights has to be a 'regular' bulb, not LED. So I'm just gonna install one of the bimmian xenon bulbs down there and the rest LED. |
