apply water on the roof first with soap on it, that would make it easier to apply the 3m on, and no u dont have to cut an exact piece of the 3m vinyl. just cut a slightly larger shapped version of your roof, then slap it on at once, since its wet the vinyl wont stick yet, so what you do is use like a credit card and start sliding down the vinyl repeatedly until all the water is out, and then you hid the excess vinyl through on the roof mouldings and window mouldings. to get left over water out use a hair dryer over the roof.

thats the case if you use cheap vinyl, remember guys buy 3m electro..something (specifically resistant and engineered to deal with the elements), dont cheap out on vinyl, u'll regret it aa all the effort in the world would be lost eventually. the ones they sell at beacon graphics have a 3-5 year life span if you take care of it.

yea i think the ones the had problem was the material and they didn't wash there cars often.......it's a decent idea but you can always repaint your rook if you have to sell your car.......no one checks out the roof to see if the color matches or whatnot......it might cost more but i think it looks better

thats true you can always repaint, and it will cost a fortune, because now they would have to blend the panels around the roof to the new roof's color, otherwise even though the paint scheme is the same, you'll have different contrasts of paint in the panels, that can be a dead give away. and if the owners were to find out somehow (whether through insurance, or if you left a the reciept of the paint job in the car, they're going to raise hell)

but if you're going to paint it anyways, why not give the cheaper alternative a try first!

one of my favorite mods got my roof professionally custom wrapped by instylegraphics.com every seam is tucked and the material is tough "bmwstephen" is right...it shines and doesnt bubble...my roof undergoes basic maintenance and looks exactly the way it did when i first got it installed

on the plus side, since i have roof racks, and my roof takes a beating from the snow and salt water from all the snowboarding and surfing i do, the vinyl does its job by protecting the paint

sounds like a mega pain in the butt... paint it... you can paint it black easy, I'm way too detail oriented , if I see a bubble on that sh it over timeor a fade of the vinyl from being weathered ill just rip the piece of sh it off and count it as a waste of money and time....doesnt cost more than 200 bucks to paint it with a nice hook up....

honestly every person that tampers with their car thats taking their rides to extremes is way past those types of sensitivities about resell value, who gives a crap... if that would be in mind then nobody would do anything and this site would be filled with stock cars(not that i dont love stock cars cuz all BMWs are bad a$$)

...fu ck it...mod it to the max and have a freaking blast...no fear... almost anything is reversible... unless you widebody or something really crazy like that...lol
