mrdecibel,

i have a system that i want to install in my '02 M3. Car came with the business cd deck, climate controls directly below. i've seen alot of people take the climate control box and mount it where the accessory/sunglass holder box used to be. is this do-able or is that a different climate control box that can fit there ? I've seen it on newer e46's that come with the factory nav system, where the lower corners of the face are not rounded, but sharp, like the top corners. i want to install an eclipse avn6600, not sure if i can move the climate box i have to that lower compartment, and i don't want to find out @ the install that it won't work.

Moving the climate controls is the EASIEST PART! It's like a 5 min job.

No, but you need to read the many posts about this in the forum. Get the new part, move the ac to the new slot - done. Search!

Question Hooking Up After Market Navi

Hi,
I am considering putting Pioneer Avic D2 or Z1 in my car. I am aware about the facts that one has to cut the vents and get a bezel to acomodate/mount the unit. My 2 questions (that make me hesitate so far are:
1.) Can you still use the factory amplifier and speakers after the install and how whould they perform?
2.) It there a writeup that specifically address the system wiring to the factory harness?
Thanks,
Peter

Is this carrier needed if doing this install/swap on an M3 with factory OEM NAV?

What is the difference between the following part numbers:

51 16 7 001 408
and
51 16 7 001 410

I have a 2005 325ci.

51 16 7 001 408 is used with the non-smoker package so it does not have the socket for the light that illuminates the ashtray. I know this because that's the one I used for my retrofit.

Hope this helps.

Is this installation, tools, and retro-fitting typical on a Double-DIN Aftermarket radio installation or just for the Kenwood? I'm thinking about getting the Pioneer AVIC-Z1

FYI - When upgrading from OEM NAV to aftermarket Double-Din HU such as the Pioneer AVIC-Z1, there IS an OEM part needed.

It called the "A/C Relocation Bracket"
PART # 51 45 8 237 560

This piece is needed to make the bezel sit "flush".

Thanks again for all your help Rich!!

mrdecibal: do your vents still all work properly? I see you mentioned modifying the damper control bar to clear the cover modification but does this mean you still have full vent functionality?

Thanks!

can someone explain to me why a oem nav will need a a/c relocation kit?

The a/c is already at the bottom (where the sunglass cubby is supposed to be)...

I am doing a Z1 install right now and will be preparing a full FAQ which includes modifying the vent control arm to maintain functionality.

You don't need the carrier (aka ac relocation kit) but you do need this:
