X5 burning oil?
anyone experience excessive oil consumption by their X5's???
my friend has an 03 and it seems like its burning a quart of oil every few thousand miles. the dealer is telling him that its tottally normal but i dont buy it.. |

every 5000 miles or so is not a big deal, perhaps he should change the weight of the oil, that might help with the consumption

My 330 burns a decent amount of oil. My dealer tells me a quart every 1000 miles can be normal. Unfortunatly...

that is very normal, especially for the the v8 engines to burn a quart every 1000 miles. dont be alarmed, thats why bmw can have 200,000 on the odometer and run like their brand new. just check your oil once every two weeks. and yes your 328 does burn oil just not as much as all the bigger motors.

Both my E90 and E46 330i's have "consumed" oil, whereas my 323i does not. I can't go the 12k between oil changes without having the oil light comeon, and having to dump a quart in to bring it back up to the proper level. For some reason the 3.0 really like to burn t3h oil.

run mobil1 0w-40.
none of our BMWs seem to burn oil.. but my dad's porsche sure does. |
